kkent66 Posted August 26, 2013 #1 Posted August 26, 2013 I just finished a 12 day trip to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. The main attraction was to ride the Cabot trail and it was worth every mile! If you have never been there it is highly recommended! My only issues the entire trip was the gas in Canada. I have a 2006 RSV and turned 60k on the return trip home. I ride two up and had the bike loaded down. The entire way out I was getting 220-240 miles per tank. My first stop for gas in Canada was about 130 north of Maine somewhere in New Brunswick and stopped at an Irving gas station. After the fill up my gas gauge dropped one bar after 9 miles. Normal first bar drop for my bike is around 72 miles. Needless to say I was a bit alarmed! I was able to get 180 miles out of the tank. Each fill up got a little bit less. By the time we hit the Cabot trail my gauge would not even show full after fill up. I found a NAPA in Cheticamp and purchased some seafoam. I let my tank get down pretty low, load up the seafoam, and let it sit for the night. Got up the next morning and, with the help of my brother in law sloshed the tank side to side. This helped a little but still not even close to what I am use to. End result as soon as I hit Calais, ME I filled up with 93 octane and like magic my gas gauge returned to normal!
Huggy Posted August 26, 2013 #2 Posted August 26, 2013 Must be mixed with sea water! In Ontario they just mix it with regular water.
Bert2006 Posted August 26, 2013 #3 Posted August 26, 2013 Glad you made it up our way. Hope you enjoyed NB roads and scenery on the way through. As for the gas thing my mileage went down as soon as they started to blend ethanol here. In the bike I only use premium which has no Ethanol and the added distance travelled more than makes up for the extra cost at the pump. Recently travelled to Maine and Quebec and mileage increased there also.....

My bike has similar miles, we had no issues with the gas. we went up through Calis and came back the same way. we went up around from the north Umberland strait area sort of clockwise around, some say we did it backwards. We even drove all the way to the end of the road in Meat cove. We met some of the friendliest People up there, often while filling up strangers would walk up and just start talking about us and our trip. we also went to Joggins, Parsbourough and rode the dirt road to the Cape D'or light overlooking the bay of Fundy. Near Parsbourough we stopped at a farm stand and bought a Strawberry shortcake, biggest desert I ever ate came in a one quart Styrofoam "cup" I did manage to eat it all. We will do the trip again, but are planning to add New Foundland Al
Evan Posted August 26, 2013 #5 Posted August 26, 2013 I recently bought some stuff for mixing with gas that has ethanol in it. A guy at a bike shop recommended it while on our Venture East trip that included the Cabot Trail. Interested in thoughts from others about using this stuff in our Ventures.
