Rab Christie Posted August 24, 2013 #1 Posted August 24, 2013 Just got my 2nd gen Venture delivered today. Everything ok but volume control on audio system doesn't adjust volume. Not getting any volume level display either. Blasts out music ok but want to be able to turn it down. I'm sure it's something I'm doing or not doing but even with the manual I'm stumped
etcswjoe Posted August 24, 2013 #2 Posted August 24, 2013 Try turning the CB off and trying it again also the connectors inside the fairing maybe dirty.
Rab Christie Posted August 24, 2013 Author #3 Posted August 24, 2013 We don't have cb's fitted to the UK models but will try cleaning connections. Thanks
etcswjoe Posted August 24, 2013 #4 Posted August 24, 2013 The connectors behind the fairing are notorious for getting dirty, clean them up good and coat with a very thin layer of dielectric grease.
dacheedah Posted August 24, 2013 #5 Posted August 24, 2013 not familiar with the UK setup, is the knob a big round knob on the left side of the control unit?? pictures please
XV1100SE Posted August 26, 2013 #7 Posted August 26, 2013 Might be dumb questions but.... - is the Select button set to SP(eaker) or H(ead)Set ? - is the issue with the head sets or speaker? ... or both? - is the radio set to a "good" station ? - have you tested with head sets?
dacheedah Posted August 26, 2013 #8 Posted August 26, 2013 also is your antenna good, unplug and check across the ground and center pin, should not have continuity. I take it you have an awesome cassette player. Put in a tape and see if it plays.
Rab Christie Posted August 26, 2013 Author #9 Posted August 26, 2013 I don't have an issue with it playing tapes or radio. It does both, it's just I can't turn the volume up or down. I thought it was maybe because its on auto volume but can't see a way of turning it to manual
BuddyRich Posted August 26, 2013 #10 Posted August 26, 2013 AV is just going to turn the vol up as speed increases. Its not going to set your turn on (start up) volume. I take your trying the thumb wheel on the left side of the control box ? Now you say you don't have a cb ? so there's no CB light ? See on ours if we select CB then we only control the volume of the cb until we hit audio again then we can change the radios volume. If you hold the audio button the unit turns off ?
LilBeaver Posted August 26, 2013 #11 Posted August 26, 2013 +1 to cleaning your connections inside the fairing. [...] Now you say you don't have a cb ? so there's no CB light ? See on ours if we select CB then we only control the volume of the cb until we hit audio again then we can change the radios volume. If you hold the audio button the unit turns off ? The version of the bike for the UK and other countries that do not allow CBs simply do not have the CB button on the controller, at all, or the CB under the trunk (obviously).
dacheedah Posted August 27, 2013 #12 Posted August 27, 2013 two white square connectors and the round ones, check for green pins. If you find any clean then add dielectric grease and reconnect.
Rab Christie Posted August 27, 2013 Author #13 Posted August 27, 2013 Thanks for your help guys. Will split the airing on my next day off. I'll let you know how I get on
Rab Christie Posted August 30, 2013 Author #14 Posted August 30, 2013 Well I split the fairing and checked the connections. And I still have no volume control. Looks like I need a new control unit.
cblaine Posted March 7, 2014 #15 Posted March 7, 2014 On my 08 venture the volume goes up on its own and then I can't turn it down ???sometimes it switches to head phones on its own. I think it's possessed Lol
kantornado Posted April 6, 2014 #16 Posted April 6, 2014 Had this happen to me radio volume would not turn down on my 02 and it was the ignition switch. Do you also have from time to time when you have been running the bike for a period of time the key feels real hot. If so its your ignition switch.
