Thinking about doing the whole thing as a part of my bucket list rides...

has anyone done this?

I took the wrong turn in Victorville Ca a couple of years ago and ended up on RT66 headed north to Barstow. It was a hoot just to think I was actually on RT66 even for that short period of time. It's on my bucket list too...

Yep, did it a few years ago.. Its pretty broken up now but certainly worth the time and effort.. If your tent camping beware of the "goat heads" pickers..

Thinking 2015 or 2016...

Whats the best months to attempt this?

Considering the mountain snow an the desert heat?

My cousin and I did it in July but ONLY because you cant get out of freezing Michigan earlier.. I think earlier in the season may be better, mid-june, to avoid the major heat issues cause it was HOT.. If I had it to do over I would do it earlier..

Well, I'm going to do it on June ??,2015...

It's going to take that much time, to plan ahead...

Anyone that would like to join us, is more than welcome....

Hopefully we can meet, as many of our brothers along the way as possible...

Road Trip, Road Trip, Road Trip,...:Venture:

Just so you know, there are two or three biker-friendly bar-n-grills on Rt 66 in Amarillo...I visit them often. When you get closer to the event let me know!

Planning is a key to this ride. Much of the old highway no longer exists and its sometimes hard to know where it stops and where it begins again. No matter its worth the effort.

I had a long plan last year to do it and was cut short by corporate reductions:(

Hopefully things will work out and you still will... Things normally work out for the better if you keep your nose to the grinding wheel...

Did the route past June/July and wouldn't recommend this trip mid summer because of extreme temps. Didn't have flexibility with timeframe, but in hindsight would have picked May/June.

We kept a short journal of route 66 with a few pics. http://maxschwieb.wordpress.com/

We are looking at doing the route next spring. Found a box set of DVDs about the road at Walmart that was pretty informative. Now have a set of the "Here It Is" maps for the whole route.
