Flyinfool Posted August 22, 2013 #1 Posted August 22, 2013 I was just wondering how many days travel it would be for people to get to the IR in Guntersville AL? If the better half comes with it would be 3 days each way and if I come alone it would be 2 days each way.
RedRider Posted August 22, 2013 #2 Posted August 22, 2013 It's only 767 miles from Milwaukee. You need a selection for less than 1 day Do you intend to stop riding after lunch? RR
Flyinfool Posted August 22, 2013 Author #3 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) Do you intend to stop riding after lunch? RR Yup You forget that I have a marshmallow butt, not an iron butt. It takes me 10 hours to cover the 425 to Dons MD. 400 Miles is about my limit, beyond that I start noticing that I am making less than optimal decisions and my reflexes are reduced. With the trailer on I need to stop at least every 100 miles for gas and ice cream. Edited August 22, 2013 by Flyinfool
jakester Posted August 22, 2013 #4 Posted August 22, 2013 Flyin fool is on a 1st gen. Three days is good with a trailer full of tools and parts. Just trying to help Jeff. Bill
Carbon_One Posted August 22, 2013 #5 Posted August 22, 2013 I'm with Jeff. 2 days alone or 3 with the Mrs. aboard. Also depending on our route taken. 875 with a detour to visit friends or 725 with the shortest shot from home, leaving 250 miles for the last days ride. I voted for 3 days as that's most likely what I'll do getting there. Larry
Flyinfool Posted August 22, 2013 Author #6 Posted August 22, 2013 Flyin fool is on a 1st gen. Three days is good with a trailer full of tools and parts. Just trying to help Jeff. Bill You are right. I have to carry tools and parts, most people I know are on 2nd gens or Harleys, I always stop to help.
dacheedah Posted August 22, 2013 #7 Posted August 22, 2013 We make frequent stops, about 120 miles and the wife needs off for ten or so minutes, and it does me well also. I also gave up the hurry and push through it attitude and now I get there when I get there (reasonably) butt safe and happy.
JohnT Posted August 22, 2013 #8 Posted August 22, 2013 1100 miles. Realistically. 2 days alone and 3 with the pretty half. Hard to believe for those that met me, but my wife IS prettier than I am.
jakester Posted August 22, 2013 #9 Posted August 22, 2013 I am about 1000 to 1100 depending on route. Two days safe journey. Jeff your tools and parts do me no good if we are not togather, darn, I will have to bring my own ( If I get to go). Bill
CaptainJoe Posted August 22, 2013 #10 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) I-81 S 446.54 miles 7 hrs 58 mins / 8 hrs 10 mins 600 mi. is about a far as I ever want to go in one day. After that, my ability to focus on the task at hand is compromised... Things happen very quickly on a bike... Like the old saying goes: " There are old riders, and there are bold riders, but there are no old, bold riders." Yup, 2 days... Actually, would only take one, but I plan on doing Devils Triangle (six gap, Ga) on the second day of ride down then head to Gunterville, Al. which is another 4 hours 41 minutes / 233.58 miles Edited August 22, 2013 by CaptainJoe
PhilH Posted August 22, 2013 #11 Posted August 22, 2013 364 miles from Lexington, KY. I can rush it within 6 hours, but conservatively I'll tak3 8 hours.
etcswjoe Posted August 22, 2013 #12 Posted August 22, 2013 You are right. I have to carry tools and parts, most people I know are on 2nd gens or Harleys, I always stop to help. Last time I stopped to help a Harely I only had metric tools onboard.
mini-muffin Posted August 22, 2013 #13 Posted August 22, 2013 If we can go it wouldn't be any longer then going to MD for us. Should be just about 11 hrs. Oh and flyinfool might get better gas mileage if he didn't eat ice cream at every stop. Margaret
Barrycuda Posted August 22, 2013 #14 Posted August 22, 2013 You are right. I have to carry tools and parts, most people I know are on 2nd gens or Harleys, I always stop to help. No real issues with 2nd gens Jeff, unless you count us being hit with 1st gen parts that have rusted through....
RedRider Posted August 22, 2013 #15 Posted August 22, 2013 You are right. I have to carry tools and parts, most people I know are on 2nd gens or Harleys, I always stop to help. I also carry tools and parts. Haven't needed them on my bike, but have used them on others. RR
Rick Haywood Posted August 22, 2013 #16 Posted August 22, 2013 600 miles 1 day down :thumbsup2:two up
Brake Pad Posted August 22, 2013 #17 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) the last IR was 4.5 day one way 1720 miles, this one will be 804 miles from door to door ( two up) ( Two Back) Edited August 23, 2013 by Brake Pad
cowpuc Posted August 22, 2013 #18 Posted August 22, 2013 This is a toughy, if I check it on mapquest it shows 2 days.. I sat down with Tippy a minute ago and looked at it and figured about 15 days after stopping and visiting with all our new friends down there and that didnt include include site seeing.. Hmmmm
Freebird Posted August 22, 2013 #19 Posted August 22, 2013 For us, it is about 710 miles. So two easy days for us. I'm really looking forward to it.
sarges46 Posted August 23, 2013 #20 Posted August 23, 2013 I selected 5. Those would be fairly easy 380 mile days. Marilyn is giving us 4 days. She could do it in 3 if I let her!
cowpuc Posted August 23, 2013 #21 Posted August 23, 2013 No real issues with 2nd gens Jeff, unless you count us being hit with 1st gen parts that have rusted through.... Barry thats not rust thru that you are referring to - those are actually burn marks,, Yamaha screwed up big time on these 1st gens, they really needed ceramic heat tiles for re-entry into what us 1st gen riders refer to as 2nd gen zone...
Wizard765 Posted August 23, 2013 #22 Posted August 23, 2013 2 full days if we boot down the hwy all the way. 3 full days if we want to enjoy the ride down.. hmmmmm.. so like others if solo 2 days but with the better half 3 days..
Condor Posted August 23, 2013 #23 Posted August 23, 2013 2400 miles one way for me. 5 days plus going and coming. That's why I ain't gonna be there....
CaptainJoe Posted August 23, 2013 #24 Posted August 23, 2013 You need a "Over 5 day ride" for Leo3Wheel...
