Trader Posted August 20, 2013 #1 Posted August 20, 2013 Is it just my computer or what? On Saddlebum's thread about his Garmin, When I typed in the word "credit cards" it mysteriously placed a link (blue text, underlined and active url) on those words to a credit agency. In the thread for Harbor Freight being hacked, there was a link on the words "on line payment" EDIT: Then it just did it to this thread with "computer"
Freebird Posted August 20, 2013 #2 Posted August 20, 2013 I'm not seeing any such links and there is nothing installed here that would cause that to happen.
Trader Posted August 20, 2013 Author #3 Posted August 20, 2013 gotta be something on my computer. I'm running a full scan as we speak.(type?)
KIC Posted August 20, 2013 #4 Posted August 20, 2013 Trader , be careful...sounds like one of those 2nd Gen gremlins has invaded your 1st Gen space. Hit it hard and complete so you can stay 1st Gen clean ...
Trader Posted August 20, 2013 Author #5 Posted August 20, 2013 McAfee found 2 "adware" programs. That's what I get for going to torrent type sites
Flyinfool Posted August 20, 2013 #6 Posted August 20, 2013 McAfee found 2 "adware" programs. That's what I get for going to torrent type sites or porn type sites.........
Trader Posted August 20, 2013 Author #7 Posted August 20, 2013 Well, I ran a scan, McAfee found the 2 adware programs, so I quarantined them and deleted them....and the links still show up!
Marcarl Posted August 20, 2013 #8 Posted August 20, 2013 So on my computer I don't use any credit cards, or don't use any credit cards on my computer, but then my name isn't Trader. So what happens when my message shows up on your screen.
Trader Posted August 20, 2013 Author #9 Posted August 20, 2013 I found the problem...it was a program called " savenshare" installed to look for and link keywords like buy, credit, shop, pay etc. When it found them it created a pop up to advertising related to that keyword. All fixed now.
