and need something to do. So, before I start my next project I ask those with more expertise than I what if any problems I will face. Here is what I am talking about.

I have a fantastic looking 86. The body work on the bike has very, very few flaws and those that it does have most would have trouble finding. But the bike does have an 89 motor that runs fairly well. The original motor had a serious issue with what I think was a bad wrist pin, thus the 89 motor. I picked up the 89 motor on ebay from a popular gent out in California. Most of you would know him if I were to mention his name but I wont. Anyway, the 89 motor has almost 60k on it now and that is assuming what was reported to me as having 45K on its clock was accurate.

Yesterday, I purchased a 92 1st edition that has an honest 28k original miles; it runs fantastically smooth, quiet, super easing to shift and is really impressive. The problem with the bike is first I don't care for blue and the body work has several deep scratches that could be repaired but then those body parts would require repainting. So here is what I am planning.....

I am planning to make the 92 look like an 86 by swapping all the brown body parts to the 92 and all the blue body parts from the 92 to the 86. I think I will be busy for a long while because there are several ccessories that would have to be removed and reinstalled; driving lights, Zumo 550, bag bars with lights, and others.

Concerning all the plastic; what problems, if any, will I encounter? I dont believe any but some may advise me otherwise.

Thanks

Too, too, bored, for sure. I'll look forward to hearing how this goes. I can't begin to guess what you might run into. But.... It seems to me that better than having both bikes apart, you would be better off stripping the new one for body work and a great paint job (or find a cute back seat rider whose eyes match the bike and leave it blue!). Better to ride than wrench.:backinmyday:

The biggest thing your going to run into Herb is broken tabs and mounts. I have had several of the 1st gens naked right down to the frames. I would probably invest in some Plastex before I would even start the disassembly. If your not absolutely positive on your ability to remember what went where, take lots of pics. If you dont have SS brake lines, I would highly recommend investing in a set for the bike you plan to keep.

The '92 electronically has a few changes, the ignition system is a single pickup coil instead of the dual that even your '89 motor has. They call the ignition a DTI instead of a TCI on the '92 as there were some changes that I'm not bright enough to explain right now. If you run into any issues you have my number, I'll be happy to help you my friend.

I'll second all that, because I know that Squidley is smarter than I am, 'course that doesn't necessarily make him real smart seeing as I am not always the brightest light on the street, but I do have my own pole.

The only thin that I would 'one up him' is the use of Plastex. I have switched to Plastifix, same product but much more product for the same money and better applicators, so much easier to work with.

I would recommend this kit. I get this from Air Craft Spruce and find the price is the best for the amount of product.
