bj66 Posted August 11, 2013 #1 Posted August 11, 2013 I went through the Indian tent at Sturgis to look at the New Indian. I wasnt that impressed. The new dresser just didnt seem right. It had the classic front fender with a more modern fairing. The fairing had recessed lights running out from the headlight, reminding me instantly of the Victory Vision. It didnt go with the front fender in my opinion. The saddle bags were top loaders and reminded me of the more modern Victory CCT. It just didnt seem right, the lids closing on the bag didnt seem to have the clean look. The Chief and Chieftain were ok though. The leather saddlebags and front fender were Indian all the way. I would like to have one of these someday. Cant say the same for the full dresser.
Phoneman1981 Posted August 11, 2013 #2 Posted August 11, 2013 I threw a leg over one of the new Indian bikes today. Impressed that I could sit flat footed. Short on time so I cannot comment on much else.
tomephil Posted August 11, 2013 #3 Posted August 11, 2013 A friend of mine was in Sturgis and took the new Chieftain for a test ride. He was impressed and he doesn't impress easily. I'm now interested.
PhilH Posted August 11, 2013 #4 Posted August 11, 2013 Too much Polaris / Victory influence for my taste. And I'm not a big fan of aluminum frame either.
GeorgeS Posted August 24, 2013 #5 Posted August 24, 2013 At this point I think its all about the new engine !!! Styling, that stuff will get worked out over time, IF??? the Engine is as good as I have been hearing. Hmmmmm Sooner, or later, you might find one Wrecked !!! and be able to swap that new engine into an RSTD !!! :stirthepot: :stirthepot:
Squidley Posted August 24, 2013 #6 Posted August 24, 2013 I personally dont care for the fairing either on the touring model. Should have taken it completely retro and gave all the updated tech goodies. It wouldn't even be on the long list if I was thinking of buying a new bike...
GeorgeS Posted August 24, 2013 #7 Posted August 24, 2013 If the engine is as good as I have been hearing, they need to put it in a " GOOD " Street Bike Frame !!! Something that can handle all that power !!! Something like a " Sportster " But with that much ""Power"" , it will have to be a ------ " GOOD "----- frame, and not just an Average, Harley type of " welded pipe" frame assembly.
awsmsrv Posted August 24, 2013 #8 Posted August 24, 2013 I personally dont care for the fairing either on the touring model. Should have taken it completely retro and gave all the updated tech goodies. It wouldn't even be on the long list if I was thinking of buying a new bike... The fairing looks almost like the RSV with the passing lamps built in. I actually think it looks better than the RSV fairing. I've had mine more than 7 years now & it still doesn't thrill me, but, the passing lamps break it up a little & makes it a little more tolerable. Don't get me wrong, I love the RSV, but that fairing has always seemed a little off.
