bill04 Posted February 21, 2008 #1 Posted February 21, 2008 Just want to share some info on how to make your own POI'S .Here are three little programs that work nicely . 1: ([POI Harvester), this one will collect data from google or Yahoo, you type the name of what your looking for , the zip code of the area and the radius in miles and then you save it in a csv file whit Excel. 2: (csvedsetup)to make corrections and keep data on four columns e,g ( Hampton Inn City / State Lattitude longitude ) 3: (Poi Edit) to make any conversion to the make or model of GPS that you have .This one is easy to get on the web. Here are the two others A few tries and you should get it right .
86er Posted February 21, 2008 #3 Posted February 21, 2008 I'm not real computer literate, so I have a couple of questions. How much memory will these programs take up in my laptop? Will they work for a Pioneer GPS? (I think it is an AVIC 2)
bill04 Posted February 21, 2008 Author #4 Posted February 21, 2008 those program are small and they are very simple to use ,the main program you need is excel from microsoft if not I'm sure someone can help you or get open office on the web it's free .
86er Posted February 21, 2008 #5 Posted February 21, 2008 Thanks Bill. I'm not sure if I have excel, but I do have open office, I've just never used it for more than a word processor.
86er Posted February 21, 2008 #6 Posted February 21, 2008 It turns out that I do have Excel. I went to POI Factory and when I opened this file on mc roads it asked if I wanted to open with excel. I saved the file but now I have to figure out what to do with it?! Looks like some good roads all over the country.
halfwitt Posted February 21, 2008 #7 Posted February 21, 2008 I've been trying to figure out how to do this. Thank you! Has anyone downloaded a ride from www.sundaymorningrides.com? I have not been able to successfully do it. Maybe these programs will help. Thanks again!
bill04 Posted February 22, 2008 Author #8 Posted February 22, 2008 86er , if you are downloading file at POi Factory these files are already to use and load on your GPS ,now you got to find out what kind of files you need depending on your model and make of your GPS
