Condor Posted August 7, 2013 #1 Posted August 7, 2013 Here's a couple of pics showing where I'm at with the rusted tank right now, and things I've found along the way... The first is where I placed the fuel filter after getting old one out of the holder. It amazes me that Y placed something that needs to be serviced so damn hard to get to. They need a few new engineers. The second is what left after pulling the tank, fuel pump, filter, and then trying to deal with a sluggish throttle that won't return to idle. Open it up, and that's where it stays. When I first started I couldn't even get it open up. Carb cleaner and Deep Creep got it moving but it's still like molasses. The third is of the manafold on number 4 carb. Scarry huh?? I hope these things are build around a metal center sleave... I don't want to pull the carbs, but I may have to. I did just order a set of throttle lines off eBay. $15 bucks, so it's not a bank buster. And now we're in August and it's cold and over cast. Three weeks ago it was 114 in the shade...
Seaking Posted August 7, 2013 #2 Posted August 7, 2013 Fuel filter, mine sits same as yours.. its relatively the same area as on a Vstar so why couldn't they do it for the Venture? Hang it by a string, build a bike around it.. yeah, that works Almost like the aircraft industry.. The third pic, ouch.. Ever see that spray on black rubber sealant "as seen on TV" where they spray a screem door with it and use it on the bottom of a boat to show how water tight it is? Wonder if they make something similar for these kinds of boots? Spray a coating over them to seal up the air leaks and away ya go until you can replace them with proper boots.. at least it would tell you if the boots were leaking or not.. Just a thought, dunno how practical it would be..
Dano Posted August 7, 2013 #3 Posted August 7, 2013 I looked at the title and thought I'd have to come out and re-wire your house,,,,, not just fix your charging system like I did a couple of years ago.....

Yeah, that was really cool. Bought the rectifier from you a year earlier and then you made a Cody call to install it.....

I did pick up a case of that 'TV screen' stuff at a boat swap a year ago for just about nothing. Now I gotta figure out what I did with it....
djh3 Posted August 8, 2013 #6 Posted August 8, 2013 A good friend of mine told me once "behind every good train wreck is an engineer". So theres food for thought. The couple of guys I have had ocasion to work with or run across that engineering degrees cant hardley change thier own oil. 10-4 on the aircraft guys. Was aircraft maint for 20 yr in USAF on Locheed aircraft. Some of the stuff you look at and think "hell Ray Charles could have figured out a better way"
