EDSETS Solution.

So I ordered my EDSETS because one, they owner was in the Military, and two,

Quote from their site:

"Our 3G headsets were along for the ride on the world's first Worldwide Circumnavigation on a Goldwing, which covered virtually every country on Earth. EdSets were there, and were praised by their owners during and after the trip. Take the Hi-Fi Highway, only with EdSets!"

Ok PULL the TRIGGER! BANG I bought the 3G!

They arrived quick!

Problem, They do not fit my half shell Carbon fiber helmet! MY Fav!

So I call Edset Support, after his first cup of coffee.

He informed me no one else has this problem. Oh Challenge a Marine to solve something! Presto!

The problem was, when mounted I had to deal with the wires for the Mic and speakers when on this helmet I would not be using either. He said you can safely cut them off. (They do not unplug for integrity reasons.)

So we talked a bit and I asked if I can extend the RCA mic cord and leave the unit in a tank bag and run the Earbuds up to my ears. YES! But Ill be the first to do this.

WHOOOT! Venturerider.org makes HISTORY again! Member solves a problem!

First I took an RCA extender as pictured, Radio Shack, they normally come as two but they come out of that holder.

And here on the Property is PAKN Firearms, We make Kydex Holsters, so I took a scrap of Kydex and cut a length off as pictured. Baked it and formed it to the RCA Extender. VERY SECURE, I was thinking our special glue but no way it needs it. But Ill put some on for stability when plugging it in.

This was easier than I thought I just pushed the Kydex up under the foam on the helmet and it was VERY Secure. So that was it!

Now I just use this, put unit in lap or hold to the tank with a Magnet on the rubber part. (Harbor freight 55 LB key ring magnet.) and run the SONY Ear buds up and MAGICALLY I have CB and listening capabilities! BONUS! You can rig this up in seconds for ANY passenger to use a headset with their helmet! ANY helmet!

The unit can also be attached on the exterior of the helmet with 3m tape. OR clipped to a chin strap. ( can also make this holder to fit onto a chin strap!)

BONUS! I'm a MODEL!

Anyone needing this adaptor I think I can make em for about $15 Shipped to your Door in USA. I'm going to buy some adaptors soon and make some up and have on hand.

Now I can have the wired speakers and mic in my Shoei Full face, And use this option for all my other helmets and passengers.

Yea who wears a half helmet now a days anyways. Its still a plus that you can extend that mic like that. Its way too cool.

He also said use ear buds when using the speakers, and the mic cord can also tap into a camera so you can narrate a movie or whatever. Pretty flexible system .

A set? Meaning TWO? First you need to order A set of EDSETS, This is an adaptor for that. I thought I would GIVE one to first responder who needed one! And had an EDSET or has one on order. So YOUR it? PM me your address. And I'll send it out as soon as a truck driver can, within a week, I have already thought of an improvement, I am going to put an index so that the flat part of the mic slides into the adaptor only one way so it cannot spin. I have to cut out a pattern and then its going to just be getting it mailed.

OH and be advised that the EDSETS fit most half helmets, in fact it fit mine, This option just does away with the unit attached to the helmet and the mic and speaker cords hanging down IF as in my case, my helmet has no ROOM inside to store or hide the wires when not using that Mic and speakers. Because EDSETS have the ability to be used with your own ear buds in place of the speakers.

I made an adapter up so I could run a earbud headset with any helmet. I just slaved it in and wire tied it along the standard 5 pin cable. I like your deal there for the half helmet. I wear mine most of the time when riding solo. Thus the reaason for the ear bud cable. Longer rides I like to wear ear plugs and now I can hear the music better than any of the helmet speaker kits. I bought a pair of Sony Xplosives ear buds with bass something or another. They sound awsome, and if you wear them with the intercomm headset you can hear the passenger better. Give us GI's some time and ingunitive ideas we can come up with a fix. Mostly thats because Uncle Sam never paids us that well and we had to get by.

Yea anyone steal the idea make it work. But if you need one hit me up.

If I knew a source and what kind of mike would work with the OEM 5 pin I might would look into building one for my shorty. I can find the connector and wire it up myself. At the price they want for the J&M rigs and the like I'm not going to put one on. Besides all the kits I have seen you have to wear the ear pockets on your shorty, well heck if I have to do that I'll just run the 3/4 Bell.

I still wear a half helmet here in Ole Virginia.....

I have the Edsets "UNIVERSAL ADAPTER"...Plugs into our 5 pin comm connection and it has a 3.5mm stereo jack plug that is part of unit. Coming back from International I played music through the Aux input in have set up on the bike. Keep the Ipod in a Windshield Bag (split in fairing with 3.5 plug on left handle bar)....Wife and I use earbuds and plug right into the Edset adapter.....Listening to music while going down the road 70 mph's and FOR SURE NO ROAD NOISE. I tired the EDSET 3G with our Half Helmet and used the Earbud option. Just didn't like all of the "STUFF" hanging off of it. Each to here own.

If I'm in a group and need communication, I have a set of ICM helmetless headset. VERY Clear, Works Great. I even learned a new use while at the International. EUSA1 (Mike) had the same set except he turned them upside down and wrapped around his neck and used the mic only on all of the ride he was leading. Used the bikes speakers. He and the tailgunner had now problems from my understanding.

We like our option with the Edset Universal Adapters a lot.

Just saying...

I'm looking for a set up that will have a mic only and no ear buds or speakers covering up my ears. As Long Tail stated, I just well use my 3/4 helmet. I rather use the speakers in the dash and just have a mic.

You can do that with the Edsets 3G module. You can just unplug the speakers, cut off the wires and just use the mic. There is still a jack on the back of the module to plug in some earbuds if you decide later that you want to.

I've removed the helmet speakers from our Edsets and we just use earbuds. The sound is amazing that way.

What Freebird said...EXCEPT...When I had the 3G set in place on our half helmets, mic location was fine. THEN....THEN...THEN I put on a three snap "HALF" face shield and a three button snap on "FULL" face shield on the helmets. It was a "STRETCH" for the mic. IN order to allow for the use of shields in case of "weather" one would need to extend the mic like IronMike did. Just saying. Another reason we sent them back and opted for the universal adapter.

PS. IF I had a 3/4, Modular or Full helmet I would do the EDSETS in a HEARTBEAT. TOTALY PLUG AND PLAY.... THEY ARE A QUALITY ITEM...

You get what you pay for comes to mind.

Remember this was the choice of the gold wingers that went around the world and through 35 countries and at the end they raved about how good they worked.

They are extremely flexible. If you don't like the kit price try build your own, call and talk to them to make the right choices. I bought one, I'll be ordering a second. And some 12 dollar helmet kits to set up other helmets as it transfers easily.
