Guest tx2sturgis Posted November 28, 2007 #26 Posted November 28, 2007 I see, the teflon insulation is for the high melting temperature. I don't know what the melting point of the Kynar 460 insulation would be. That's not given on RS's website. . Yep...my guess is, the wires reach a temp of a couple of hundred degrees...you dont want the insulation melting, and the wires touching bare metal to metal...shorts are BAD news when they catch you on fire!
loehring Posted November 28, 2007 #27 Posted November 28, 2007 Sometimes I wish I were as mechanically inclined as the people here on this site. For those who are as challenged as I am, I bought the classic jacket liner and gloves last year aong with a dual control and love them. The connectors are the same as Gerbing and I haven't been able to find a quality difference either. Just about half the price. http://cozywinters.com/heated-clothing/
pegscraper Posted November 30, 2007 #28 Posted November 30, 2007 There are many other good tech articles on the general tech page of the BMW site that Scott mentioned. http://www.ibmwr.org/otech.shtml Some are about heated gear, and some other general tech stuff. Check out this one on repairing an electric vest. It shows a pic of the inside of a Gerbing vest and describes it in detail. Interesting. http://www.ibmwr.org/otech/vestrepair.html For next summer, there's a good one on making your own evaporative cooling vest.
