tomephil Posted August 6, 2013 #1 Posted August 6, 2013 I wonder how this works in fog or mist? It probable isn't compatible with the OEM windshield.

Mike G in SC Posted August 6, 2013 #3 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) Looks like it's gone retail. I wonder if you sprayed yourself down with this and jumped off the diving board, would you skip like a rock,,,, or go to the bottom so fast you'd crack your head? Don't jump in the ocean till this has been tested,,, not a deep ocean anyhow! PS: We have a couple or windshield members here, F4 Customs and Baggershield. You guys going to give this a try? mbrood Posted August 6, 2013 #4 Posted August 6, 2013 It's developers partnered with Home Depot so it's a shelf item now. But it's broken down by UV so it would have to be repeated on a windshield.... don't know WHAT would take it of so you don't have buildup. My wife asked the obvious... if you spray a shirt and wear it... just HOW do you wash the shirt? I presume dry clean?
M61A1MECH Posted August 6, 2013 #5 Posted August 6, 2013 If you put it on a shirt the shirt will never get dirty so no need to wash it, just shake it out and put it back on. If it is broken down by UV and you have to reapply it, will it stick to itself or will the reapplication just be repelled on the areas where it is still intact? If it repells everything what would you use to remove it besides elbow grease and abrasives. I wonder how well it would work on regular GPS units if you use one on you bike and get caught in the rain. Quick someone try it out, inquiring minds want to know.

Might be nice for a ship or better yet a Sub...
Flyinfool Posted August 6, 2013 #8 Posted August 6, 2013 It is not a glass clear coating so it would not be good for a windshield unless you want a frosted windshield...... Look at the part of the demo where they sprayed the perimeter of glass to make the puddle stay in the middle. it is frosted looking, almost white. In fact most of the things they coated in the demo were white. But it may still have some interesting applications. But it aint cheap and only covers 10-15 square feet.
Guest bodasefus Posted August 6, 2013 #9 Posted August 6, 2013 That is correct about the glass... I sent an email to the Rustolium customer service and they told me there is no plan at this time to make it a clear product... It drys cloudy... but a great product...
rickardracing Posted August 6, 2013 #10 Posted August 6, 2013 I would imagine you would not want any prolonged bare skin contact with anything this has been sprayed with. I would not do any clothing other than maybe a rain suit for added protection, but not shirts, pants or shoes. Who knows what that stuff will do to you with prolonged exposure.
tomephil Posted August 7, 2013 Author #11 Posted August 7, 2013 Who knows what that stuff will do to you with prolonged exposure. It may give you a irresistible urge to ride a Harley... Yes, I know that was too easy but I had to go for it.
IronMike Posted August 7, 2013 #12 Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) I pulled the trigger on some today and just installed it. I choose some gloves, a Balaclava, Headband, and some other stuff, Its two step process, 1st step is like spray glue, You want to go two light coats not one heavy. This coat compromises breathability and one heavy coat would be no breathability of whatever you spray it on. In some cases who cares. It dries in 30 minutes, two coats 1 hour until 2nd step. Second step is a clear non sticky stuff, sort of like clear lacquer. Soon as it hits the first coat, it turns to a frosty color. Kinda scary I mean they WERE leather gloves, They WERE black. When I went in the house they were frost colored, I am in hope it will dry more clear. UPDATE awoke this morning and anxiously went out to check out my new totaly frosted motorcycle gear! Whoaaaaaaaaaa! I think its waterproof! So I dunked the gloves in the sink, not as good as you see in the video but way better than they were. by rubbing the frosted part (Looks like someone spilled baby powder on them.) you can get it to go back to black. But remember they say it is comprimised MOSTLY by abrasion, So I think that is going against it being waterproof. I basically washed my hands with the gloves on, no water got inside. I did get em to go back to pretty much black. I THINK I may have done too heavy of a coat of step number one. says light coats so Back to another Application and try to get it right. I sent Don a Picture of the finished product He can comment LOL But it looks like it will work as advertised. It says it can be removed by abrasives or a hard blast of water like a power washer. It also says scuffing and abrasion is what wears it off. It Stinks to high heaven, do even think of spraying it around Dons wife. Fume smell big time. FAQ in the box say do not use on electronics. (Funny I saw a submerged phone in the video) Also says do not use it on Venture Wind Screens as you will think you are riding in the snow all the time. Frosty. $20 Home Depot. Freebird Posted August 7, 2013 #13 Posted August 7, 2013 Thanks for the warning...as I told you...Eileen is VERY sensitive to fumes. I can't even eat beans before a long ride. Will be interesting to hear how it holds up over the long haul. Sounds like it may be good stuff for some applications. I don't know if I want my leather turning a frosty white though.
IronMike Posted August 7, 2013 #14 Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) EDITED my post. I think we are onto something ESPECIALLY if your gear is white anyways! I think I put too heavy a first step on. Try again Edit. Ok this is not something to spray on anything dark. Like stuff bikers wear. It tried it again and same results. So save it for old gear or rain gear. You can make some old gloves wayerproof but don't treat new ones. When they say frost colored thwy mean it. And it feels kinda rubbery. But it does work. I put some on some light colored stuff and you can hardly tell. Edited August 8, 2013 by IronMike

You can rub most of the white of but I'm not sure that it don't compromise the water resistance. Certainly waterproof though. Best on light colors.

Best on light colors.Deal breaker you just talked me out of applying it to my full length duster coat. Imaging that I would have looked like a Cowboy Alien.
IronMike Posted August 23, 2013 #17 Posted August 23, 2013 The final results are in! Do not waste your money! About the only use I can see for these are making an old set of cheapo Frogg Toggs waterproof again and thats about it! Anything I used it on, it wore off quickly. Everything had the White looking frosty look. It will work fine if you want to waterproof something then not use it or touch it. But touching it wears it off and your back to where you started, For instance, you do gloves and then hold the grips, within hours where it touched the grips it has no water repellent. So that's a $20 bill down the drain and 3 hours of my life I can't get back.
Flyinfool Posted August 23, 2013 #18 Posted August 23, 2013 Thanks I was going to buy a can just to experiment with, now I don't have to.
Freebird Posted August 23, 2013 #19 Posted August 23, 2013 Yea, and now I don't even want to borrow Mike's things.
