Godlover Posted August 5, 2013 #1 Posted August 5, 2013 It seems that the day after I ride I struggle with my sinuses, a headache, and just seem worn out. It doesn't have to be a 200 mile trip either. I try to stay hydrated and wear earplugs. It seems worse this year and is spoiling my joy of riding. Yesterday was beautiful but after a short ride the day before I had a headache. Any suggestions?

I try to stay hydrated and wear earplugs. It seems worse this year and is spoiling my joy of riding. Yesterday was beautiful but after a short ride the day before I had a headache. Any suggestions? This doesn't happen to me after every ride, but it does happen. In my case, I have mild allergies, and I attribute my headaches to breathing all the dust & pollen while riding. So, I've started using an over-the-counter saline-type nasal flush product (sorry, can't remember the name) that I get at Walmart in the allergy medication aisle. Seems to help if I remember to flush out the sinuses right after a ride.
Flyinfool Posted August 5, 2013 #3 Posted August 5, 2013 A couple of thoughts. Do you wear a full face helmet that will protect your ears from wind and turbulence? If wearing a full face helmet you could also try wearing on of the allergy masks to filter the air that you are breathing and no one would notice. Once you get to a point that you can identify the problem, could be allergies, could be the wind pressure, or something else, then you can work on methods to minimize it.
rbig1 Posted August 6, 2013 #4 Posted August 6, 2013 The wife and i get headakes after a long ride. Geting behind big trucks and busses. Exhaust fumes are nasty we try to stay awway as far as possible. Seems to help
RedRider Posted August 6, 2013 #5 Posted August 6, 2013 Are you riding with your Harley (sorry Don) friends and stopping at every bar in town? A headache can come from that. RR
Godlover Posted August 6, 2013 Author #6 Posted August 6, 2013 I realized that this year may be worse as I quit using my steroid nasal spray this summer. Yesterday I got a refill and will give it a shot. I ride with a half helmet, shield and ear plugs.
