bmiller Posted August 1, 2013 #1 Posted August 1, 2013 10 hours on the road today to cover 608 km (380 mi). Day 5 started off overcast and foggy in Oregon. The sun finally broke through early afternoon in California and stayed with me the rest of the day. 10 hours consisted of many pit stops to take numerous pictures (I added a few more to my pictures & albums under the community tab), road construction delays and chatting it up with fellow riders. I met a couple from France touring on a rented Harley. Tonight I am parked in Bodega Bay. Great service at the Lucas Warf Restaurant and the Catch of the Day seafood was fantastic. I thought I had seen pretty in Oregon well the California coast is just as spectacular as Oregon was!! I am getting closer to my destination and am anxious to meet up with my wife and grand daughter on Friday. that is enough from me for today, enjoy the pictures below.
Venturous Randy Posted August 1, 2013 #2 Posted August 1, 2013 I have looked forward to your posts and pictures. I have to say that I envy you on this trip and would love to do something like this sometime. RandyA
VentureFar Posted August 1, 2013 #3 Posted August 1, 2013 Great ride I live in Los Angeles. Are you heading over to Yosemite and Lake Tahoe area or down the rest of the coast? The rest after hwy 1 from Monterey to San Louis obispo is not "pretty". Thanks for sharing VentureFar...

The fields of flowers around Lompoc are interesting and it's good between Santa Barbara and Santa Monica. Where are the good routes through the hills around LA though?
syscrusher Posted August 1, 2013 #5 Posted August 1, 2013 enjoy the pictures below. If you've seen Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox you must have been near the "Wild Mad Road". My favorite road name ever, I think. "Poison Spider Road" outside Casper, Wy may be one of my least favorite. There is a "Poison Spider Elementary School" on that road.
bmiller Posted August 1, 2013 Author #6 Posted August 1, 2013 Venturous - TY I appreciate the comments and I do consider myself very fortunate to be able to take a ride like this. Everything just fell into place to make it possible, I am awestruck at the shear beauty of the scenery. Venture Far - the plan today is to come off the 1 going on the 101 to either Santa Maria or Santa Barbara, overnighting at either one of these. Tomorrow planning on the 405 through LA then the 5 into San Diego for Friday. Syscrusher - TY for the info, I will take #1 through Santa Barbara to #10 in Santa Monica then over to the 405. As for the "Wild Mad Road" I am not sure I encountered that but I can tell you the first 22 miles coming off the #101 onto the # 1 requires a "Wild Man" to ride it. Between the constant curves, hairpin turns and oncoming trucks I needed a break after coming off that.
syscrusher Posted August 1, 2013 #7 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) I'm sorry, I guess you see this sign on CA Hwy 36 between Fortuna and Red Bluff, one of the finest motorcycle roads in the US. If you have the time.... If you like the circus, don't miss Venice Beach either. There's so much to see where you're at now. Edited August 2, 2013 by syscrusher "Venice Beach" argh.
VentureFar Posted August 2, 2013 #8 Posted August 2, 2013 If you get this in time. I suggest you take 101 south to Rice Ave in Ventura. Exit right - south to 1 south take 1 south to Decker Canyon road- left into the mountains ( super twisty ) Decker merges into mulholland Drive - right on Mulholland Dr Take that to "the Rock Store" 30354 Mulholland Highway, Cornell, California The famous eatery that all bikers in Southern California go to. then continue on Mulholland east to Topanga Canyon Rd. Right on Topanga to Pacific Coast Hwy - South on PCH to the 10 to 405 south and continue on. VentureFar...
bmiller Posted August 2, 2013 Author #9 Posted August 2, 2013 Syscrusher - I have noted the "Wild Mad Road" as a to do for a future trip. TY for the suggestions Venture Far - TY for the suggestion. I looked at it on the map and do not feel I will have the time this trip. Definitely have logged it for another trip though. I have no doubt I will be in this area again.
VentureFar Posted August 2, 2013 #10 Posted August 2, 2013 Remember you can split lanes in California. But only do it between left and next lanes. ....and rememember to breathe VentureFar...
