homey1 Posted July 29, 2013 #1 Posted July 29, 2013 Hi again, I've had my '02 for a week and am having questions: To get the intercom to work from my helmet to my girl's, is all I need a headset like this in each of our helmets? http://www.jmcorp.com/linkpix/HS-8154B-FF-L.jpg Thanks in advance! Danny
homey1 Posted July 29, 2013 Author #2 Posted July 29, 2013 We both have full face helmets, as pictured.
Bert2006 Posted July 29, 2013 #3 Posted July 29, 2013 That would be correct, just make sure you order the one with the 5 pin connector (same one for HD's).
Bert2006 Posted July 29, 2013 #5 Posted July 29, 2013 You are welcome sir, just got some for our bike, we have composite helmets so used the ones with boom mikes. I did not buy the most expensive ones from J&M. They work great for intercom, but so so for music.
RedRider Posted July 29, 2013 #6 Posted July 29, 2013 When you install them, it may require some cutting of the foam. If the speakers are pressing on the ears they will become painful in a short period of time. RR
BoomerCPO Posted July 29, 2013 #7 Posted July 29, 2013 Intercom system....Ya gotta be kidding right????? Boomer....who sez de wife is a lot less noisy and de ride is more peaceful without a Intercom system on de scoot....
djh3 Posted July 29, 2013 #8 Posted July 29, 2013 Once you plug them in you will have to adjust the volume by the control on the left handle bar. I think its the middle switch. Just sort of tab thru until it says IC then you use the up/down lever to adjust the inter com volume. However the higher you go the more background "swoosh" you get. The mic is "open" all the time. It kills my ears so I put a couple of puch to talk switches inline on mine. they were like $30 ea. Cheaper than the mic mutes thing.
beltfed50 Posted July 29, 2013 #9 Posted July 29, 2013 I have a pair of Yamaha (made by J&M) headsets for full face helmets I'd like to sell...installed briefly and removed so the sticky backed Velcro isn't included. Took 'em out because I did not like the cords and moved the Scala headsets to the new helmets. $250 for both, shipped in US.
MikeWa Posted July 29, 2013 #10 Posted July 29, 2013 As a side note. If you have the IC vol set up so you can hear the intercom you may also notice an increase in road noise. Since the IC is 'always on' the mic's can pick up and amplify all sorts of extraneous noises. Just something for you to be aware of. Mike
Cougar Posted July 29, 2013 #11 Posted July 29, 2013 Make sure you check the passenger volume knob as well on the left side of where the arm rest is.

Drreb Posted July 29, 2013 #13 Posted July 29, 2013 If I had a wife I sure would not give her a intercom....."I have to p**"..every 2 miles...just saying:rasberry:
homey1 Posted July 31, 2013 Author #14 Posted July 31, 2013 Thanks for all the advice, guys. Fortunately for me, I like hearing what the wife has to say!
homey1 Posted July 31, 2013 Author #15 Posted July 31, 2013 Here's another question, though. Why are there "push to talk" buttons on the bike if the mic is always open?
IronMike Posted July 31, 2013 #16 Posted July 31, 2013 Here's another question, though. Why are there "push to talk" buttons on the bike if the mic is always open? For the CB?
