just got back from about a 125 mile first real ride on my 1988 venture. even though I have a carb issue & in need of a good tune up. checked the gas mileage. got 39mpg. riding position is comfortable, my wife said she likes the seat. cant wait to get things running right. powerful engine also made for an enjoyable day. I think I have a keeper.:)

Join the club. Oh yea, you have. Now continue to enjoy. (My wife has now gone coast to coast behind me with no complaints.)

Those 88,s just seem like they want to get out on highway and stretch their legs. When I ride mine it seems as though it wants to eat highways for breakfast. Welcome to VR.

Welcome 10spd; I know what you mean. Those 88,s like to strech their legs. When riding mine it feels like it wants to eat highways for breakfast.

get a can of techtron, dump it in and fill up, then just ride it around town. Low speed jets need a soak n run

And buy gas regularly from stations selling fuel with a quality fuel system cleaner additive. In the western US, those stations include Union76, Chevron, Texaco, and Shell. Arco has a cleaner now, but of dubious quality. There is a station near me that sells fuel with no cleaner, and at the same price as their competitors with cleaner. If the station doesn't post the info, ask questions.

Tell me about it....on our last visit to Chaffee and Bob's BBQ, i filled up gas there before heading back to Canada, don't remember what gas station, and the bike ran like crap heading back to canada. wouldn't idle well...wouldn't start so easy, etc. Going to be careful from now on as to where i fill up. Here in Ontario, i mostly fill up at Shell or Petro canada and haven't experienced such problems.

well I took the bike to local bike shop to have a looksee. this guy did a lot of work on my old Honda so I do trust him. he did not think I had any carb issue. He did suggest to check ohms resistance on the wires & plug caps. I do remember seeing that same test on here before. so again thanks for the tips.
