if my onboard compressor module in the fairing does not light up with pressures. etc should I look for a fuse or the module. pretty sure the air ride is flat. just from the way it is riding. a little rough.

thanks in advance

You could get lucky and have a blown fuse. But these bikes are old and the fuse holder is brittle and lame...lol The guys replace the whole thing. You can do a search if you need to do it later. There should be a air cap on the kickstand side to put in air, and a, damper dial next to it. try 35lb or less to see if it holds air. Dont over inflate! On the front shocks don"t go over 20lb If I remember right, Front seals will blow I'm told. Good luck.

I'm not seeing which bike you have but it is a 1st gen MKI or MKII I'd guess.

First the compressor only functions when the key is in the ACC position and can only be adjusted from there.

Hit ACC and give it a minute to cycle. Then try the AUTO buttons and see what it does.

If you get an "E" code it's probably the control module. If you get nothing then check the fuse.

Go form there.

If the bike has a factory compressor (CLASS) there will be no airports (Shrader valves) for front or rear. Airports are only on non CLASS equiped bikes. Front port will be to left of key switch.

You Cannot !! operate the pump, with key in the " ON " engine run position. This is a safty feature so you cannot Change the pressure while driveing !!!

Pump only runs in the ACC position as stated above .

A common problem with these bikes, is a Bad Conneciton in the Plug, about 6 inches below the Class System control head. !!! Remove the panel, bolts, ( allen head ) and pull out the control unit. follow the cable about 6 inches, to the plug. Its very common for the wires to come loose, at the male and female Pins inside this plug.

Tug Tug on the wires, and most likely, one or more wires will pull right out. You then are faced with a Re-Soldering job !!

I had to repair at least 3 wires in this plug if I remember correctly over the years on the 89 that I had on the road for 18 years.

To get too the pump unit located Under the Travel Trunk, you actually have to remove the trunk !! To get to some more electrical connections, and also check the air lines back there at the pump. Good idea to do this on an older bike, make sure no loose connections on the air lines !! There are several joints in the lines, that can come loose. Each joint has O-Rings, to make a good seal !!!

Pull up the Service manuel, on this site, in the " maintenance " section look up the CLASS Section, it has a diagram of all the Air Lines, ( Lots of them )

There is also in the much more detailed Service manual such as the dealer re-print that I use of changing the dessicant every two years to keep moisture out of the system, it also has a filter that must be cleaned. Yes it only turns on when in ACC.

my bike is a 1988 royale. time to start tracing wires. I also think it is time to join the group.

:sign yeah that::clap2::sign yeah that:

It's also best to have the bike on the center stand. And do the front first o as not to over pressure the forks with residual air pressure from putting air in the rear.

Welcome. You are getting good advice. Not sure my info is as good but it is based on my experience. If your compressor is pooched, you can easily add some lines with Schroeder valves to add air manually, BUT if you do that, use a small hand pump as you can easily overdo the air pressure. My 88 had that done to it. Like others say, there are some common problems so it is usually not the compressor itself. I was able to repair mine with some soldering, thanks to the great advice from this forum.

my module will light up but then shows an E4. So I think I have a module that has gone bad.

Probably just needs resoldering. This is pretty typical on these bikes. Someone that has done it will chime in and tell what you need to do.

Definitely agree. More often than not an E4 message can be fixed with a minor solder job. There are some good threads with pics on the site for this.
