Jayceesfolly Posted July 26, 2013 #1 Posted July 26, 2013 My brother-in-law has acquired a '79 Suzuki GS550E and is going to restore it to factory new condition for his daughter to ride. It only has 8000 miles on it but needs a few things. Where can we find a downloadable service manual and also a breakdown of parts with part numbers. He is not computer literate and is having trouble finding parts and part numbers. Also, is there a reputable chrome shop that can re-chrome parts. Thanks for the help. Jim
van avery Posted July 26, 2013 #2 Posted July 26, 2013 Here is a place for parts. Check out Ebay for used and some new parts both.:thumbsup:Good luck with the project. http://suzuki.powersports360.com/fiche_select1.asp?cat=Motorcycles&mfg=SUZUKI&srt=yr
tomephil Posted July 26, 2013 #5 Posted July 26, 2013 www.thegsresources.com Yep, I have used this with my 850 gsl.
MiCarl Posted July 26, 2013 #6 Posted July 26, 2013 He should acquire a PAPER service manual. They're much more convenient than electronic manuals, especially for the computer illiterate. I generally buy from repairmanual.com but I am sure there are others, including eBay.
k9cottage Posted July 26, 2013 #7 Posted July 26, 2013 http://www.blackbears.ru/index_en.php?get=manual i usually find what im looking for on this site
RedRider Posted July 26, 2013 #8 Posted July 26, 2013 www.thegsresources.com +1 on this site. The moderator of this site is REALLY knowledgeable on the old GS'. I have one that will be restored over the winter.
Jayceesfolly Posted July 26, 2013 Author #9 Posted July 26, 2013 Thanks, everyone for the information. I will pass along all these sites to my BIL. I have been on eBay and have found a few parts but he will need more as he gets farther into the project. I am now getting ready to head to Galena for the IR and will get into this restoration project when I return. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Jim
eusa1 Posted July 26, 2013 #10 Posted July 26, 2013 See me at the rally and i will give you some chrome info! Mike
Peder_y2k Posted July 26, 2013 #11 Posted July 26, 2013 restore it to factory new condition for his daughter to ride. Jim I'm hoping the daughter is not going to learn to ride on a beautifully restored GS550. All that money spent and then high potential for new pavement rash? I hope I'm wrong. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
Jayceesfolly Posted July 26, 2013 Author #12 Posted July 26, 2013 OK, thanks, Mike. I will see you there. His daughter is 11 years old and has been riding mini bikes for a couple of years now. She hasn't been on a public highway yet (at speed) but she has no problem handling the minibike on their farm. Jim
1joeranger Posted July 27, 2013 #13 Posted July 27, 2013 1st Bike I ever owned!! Hey, where are the pictures?!
