Trader Posted July 25, 2013 #1 Posted July 25, 2013 Man I wish I had a memory. on the 88 Do the washers go between the wheel hub and the swingarm or on the outside of the swing arm against the head/nut?
Trader Posted July 25, 2013 Author #4 Posted July 25, 2013 Thanks Stan.....I printed that out from the manual...but it doesn't specify where the swingarm is in the whole assembly. Thanks Michael is it located in the same position on the drive side? I thought there was a difference Departure is about 20 hours!
Snaggletooth Posted July 25, 2013 #5 Posted July 25, 2013 Oh damn..... Washer on drive side is outside the swingarm. "nut" should have tipped me off. Everybody has trouble with the other side.
Trader Posted July 25, 2013 Author #6 Posted July 25, 2013 OMG!!!! and they say there is no stupid questions!!! That's what I mean about a memory....by the time I got into the house and onto the computer I "forgot" the swing arm only goes to one side! That's so bad it's embarrassing! should be able to figure it out from here!
Trader Posted July 26, 2013 Author #7 Posted July 26, 2013 It took me a all day but I finally got the rear tire changed and balanced (2 different places) then I got the splines greased, the pads reversed, re-installed the wheel and put in new oil too. I also had to re-install the cooler rack on my trailer.(that was all of 15 min!) I would have saved a lot of time if I had a memory. I was trying to put the stepped washer on the drive side ...Couldn't understand why the pumpkin wouldn't close up! it just fit on the wheel on the drive side so nicely I didn't try moving that washer to the rotor side for quite awhile...I thought maybe there was some trick to get the splines to match up and slide in! Plus after a whole lot of frustration I realized that there are 2 different size washers. One, the axle slides thru, which goes on the rotor side..the other only the threaded part fits, which goes on the drive side. (the exploded view in the manual doesn't really show things very clearly.) I wonder if I was to write up a revision to the procedure in the library pointing out such things if a Moderator would install it for future newbies. Experience is a wonderful teacher. I'm sure next time I will remember those things. (I think I'll have nightmares about it!!!!!!) Thanks for all the help from folks here too! Got at least $6.00 worth today alone! See you in Galina!! Leaving tomorrow afternoon.
