ACE50 Posted July 31, 2013 #26 Posted July 31, 2013 Easy check, look at your vacuum diaphrams. They come into play when you open throttle. May have split?
Guest tx2sturgis Posted July 31, 2013 #28 Posted July 31, 2013 Take two Seafoams and call me in the morning.
crowrod Posted July 31, 2013 #29 Posted July 31, 2013 check your tps a motor needs 3 things to run, fuel ,air and a spark at the right time if it isnt getting that it aint goin to run.
BuddyRich Posted July 31, 2013 #30 Posted July 31, 2013 I have hit the rev limit many times. You can tell because it starts missing and the oil light flashes. Never hurt anything because the rev limiter worked. These bikes will go another 700 rpm safely so there's nothing you could have done to it unless you had a Dyna installed and it was set above 7300. Check that the airfilters are clean and that the boxes are buttoned up correctly. Both the first and second gens are sensitive to changes in the airflow via a loose fitting or blockage even in small amounts.
flalumbee Posted August 1, 2013 #31 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) I found and ordered the 42S from here. wes0778 Posted August 2, 2013 #32 Posted August 2, 2013 Have you tried reving it with the choke pulled out?
Bob Myers Posted August 2, 2013 #33 Posted August 2, 2013 Have you tried reving it with the choke pulled out? If it is leaning out under high rpm that would certainly fatten it back up, if only for a second or so. You would know. If it is starving from weak pump it likely won't make a bit of difference. If it is electrical the extra fuel would bog it down.
Seaking Posted August 2, 2013 #34 Posted August 2, 2013 Curious to know if the OP pulled the plugs at least to check them.. I had a similar problem with another bike and it was one of the spark plugs.. basically missing parts of it.. Idled and low powered ok.. but couldn`t make power or speed.. needless to say the engine required a rebuild after that.. ergh (hoping this is not the case for the OP)
Macke Posted August 7, 2013 Author #35 Posted August 7, 2013 It turned out to be clogged air intakes, shop cloth and wad of paper towel I had inadvertently left behind. Thanks for all the input and I'm thankful it was not something serious. Replaced the plugs, as I had fouled them out. Happy to be back on the road again. All the best to all of you!
VentureFar Posted August 8, 2013 #37 Posted August 8, 2013 Thanks for fessing up. We all learned a lot about this type of issue. Including backtracking the last thing done. Good on ya. VentureFar...
