ReinyRooster Posted July 20, 2013 #1 Posted July 20, 2013 I just want to pull the headlight of my 2006 RSV out so I can connect my Flash to Pass transmitter to the headlight wires.......removed the allenhead bolt from the trim but the trim won't move. What's the trick? Thanks.
KeithR Posted July 20, 2013 #2 Posted July 20, 2013 Its been awhile but I would say you have to split the fairing to remove the headlight housing. Keith
Gary N. Posted July 20, 2013 #3 Posted July 20, 2013 Yup, you've got a lot to learn. Better start reading. Yes, the easiest way is to split the fairing. I know your hands are too big to reach in from the back side.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted July 20, 2013 #4 Posted July 20, 2013 A: Remove the entire front fairing half...lots of screws involved with that....I think there is a write-up somewhere about it. Or, B: If you have a small hand, or know someone who does, you might be able to unplug the connector from the back of the headlight...turn the bars all the way to the right, get on the left side of the bike and look under the steering stem, thru the forks. Its in there.
Cougar Posted July 20, 2013 #5 Posted July 20, 2013 Here ya go.. in no time you will be able to remove it in about 10 mins or less http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=494&highlight=splitting+fairing Good Luck! Jeff
ReinyRooster Posted July 20, 2013 Author #6 Posted July 20, 2013 So much for it being easy! O.K...thanks.
bongobobny Posted July 20, 2013 #8 Posted July 20, 2013 Reiny, can it be plugged into a cigarette lighter? If so your bike has one of those...
djh3 Posted July 20, 2013 #9 Posted July 20, 2013 The actual "headlight" cant be removed, its a sealed housing. The bulb however comes in from the rear. I have changed mine out without splitting the fairing. I find it easiest to turn full lock to right and you can sort of gain access. Splitting fairing sounds like abig job but after you do it a few times you can almost get all the right tools first time around. If you have passing lights you will have to remove them (2 ea 6mm allen bolts under fairing) unless it has a special spacer. 3mm allens on drivers side (I had to go buy a set with the 3mm in it) and I think same for windshield bolts. Careful with the chrome strip thing around windshield, the clips break very very easily.
ReinyRooster Posted July 20, 2013 Author #10 Posted July 20, 2013 well I started before I read this so I got all the screws out but couldn't get one of the two bolts loose that hold on the front light bar so I couldn't get the fairing apart......put her all back together and will try again some other day when I have more time. Thanks for all the info. Am trying to mount the transmitter for the Flash to Pass transmitter which opens the garage door....you hook it into the headlight wiring and then activate it by flipping on the highbeams twice and viola....the garage door opens!
XV1100SE Posted July 20, 2013 #11 Posted July 20, 2013 If you need a hand... feel free to give me a call. We are home this evening and on Sunday.
KeithR Posted July 20, 2013 #12 Posted July 20, 2013 I just mounted a switch wired to one of the remotes for my garage door opener next to the 12v plug in the fairing.....just gotta reach down and give it a push...cost $3.00 Keith
