ventureblue Posted February 19, 2008 #1 Posted February 19, 2008 I just ordered this set of saddle bag liners and trunk bag along with a trunk rack from JC whitney. I hope it isnt junk. Does anyone else have this set? http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-VehicleBrowse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2012265/p-2012265/currentRecordCount-0/N-111+2007+200004571+600014545/c-10111 and here is the trunk rack http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Search?catalogId=10111&storeId=10101&sku=CBM010781 i did read that the trunk rack may rust a bit in the joints. we'll see.
papa smurf Posted February 19, 2008 #2 Posted February 19, 2008 We just got a set of bag liners from tlcproducts. They were a tad pricey...80 bux plus shipping, but they came with free monogramming. the ended up being very sturdy, i think we will get years of use out of them. tlcproducts.com
rod Posted February 19, 2008 #3 Posted February 19, 2008 I have had the bag liners for a while and JCW liners are same as the others with out the logo, quality product. The trunk rack is ok but the welds do rust if you dont take care of them. Rod
Eck Posted February 19, 2008 #4 Posted February 19, 2008 Trunk rack is cheaply chromed...and it will rust in weld joints.. I have the same exact one on my bike, and it started rusting about a month after I recevied it.. I pay special attention to the weld areas when waxing and try to ensure I apply liberal amounts of wax in the joints..I even leave the wax in th ejoints and do not buff it off. good luck..
ventureblue Posted February 19, 2008 Author #5 Posted February 19, 2008 ok den, thanks for everyones input. If the rack does rust I guess i will have to drop the extra dime on the Yama or Hnda rack I saw on here. I thought the bags looked just like the Yama Ones only without the monograming.

When you get them take some clear spray paint and coat the welds a couple of times. That should keep them from rusting.

Do you remember if the rack came with a template?
Eck Posted February 19, 2008 #9 Posted February 19, 2008 Do you remember if the rack came with a template? Yep, mine did..... And truthfully, I didnt use it....... I placed masking tape in the areas that the four legs, or feet, of the rack where they would sit on the plastic trunk lid. I then centered the rack by eye, then measured from back rest to rack & side to side edges to ensure it was as centered as could be. Then using a pencil, I traced around the four legs on the tape. I removed the rack, then drilled the four mounting holes thru the tape and trunk lid. I used a drill bit that was just a hair bigger then the mounting screws on the front. On the two most aft holes I drilled them on a slight angle to match the angle of the two aft legs of the rack. Note: You can drill the two aft holes a little larger then the mounting screws to make up the difference in angle too. The rack comes with rubber and chrome washers, and the rubber ones cover the larger aft holes anyway.. There is nothing to it.. takes about 10 minutes to mount it.
rod Posted February 19, 2008 #10 Posted February 19, 2008 Ditto what Eck said. I drilled the hole the same size as the screws at first and had trouble starting the bolts. Go larger to save some aggravation. Rod
wolfman1 Posted February 20, 2008 #11 Posted February 20, 2008 If before you ever wax the rack, you'll put a good coat of clear fingernail polish on the weld area's you should really have little problem from them rusting. After a few day, then wax them. Steve
