Monty Posted July 12, 2013 #1 Posted July 12, 2013 My '03 is having problems. I took the plug off of the R/R & tested the AC voltage with the bike running. One leg has around 25 volts on it, and the other 2 have less than 10 volts. With the bike running, the output from the R/R is about 13.1-13.2 volts, but at the battery, I am only measuring about 12.4 volts. Is there another plug before the one at the R/R, for the stator, that could possibly have bad connections?
Monty Posted July 12, 2013 Author #2 Posted July 12, 2013 I just found the plug where it first comes out of the case, by the fuel pump. Retested the 3 wires there & I get the same AC voltages, so it looks like I am going to be ordering a stator.
Monty Posted July 12, 2013 Author #3 Posted July 12, 2013 I have it all torn down, except I cant get the darn cover off. It's not just the magnets holding me up, either. Seems it's catching on something at the bottom. Everything is clear on the outside. Something on the inside is hanging me up. Any suggestions?
Cougar Posted July 13, 2013 #4 Posted July 13, 2013 (edited) It will come off. just did this last year. tap around it with a rubber mallet and pull. You also might have to loosen the gear lever a bit as well for the room. I think I had to remove one bolt on it to drop it a bit. Edited July 13, 2013 by Cougar
Cougar Posted July 13, 2013 #5 Posted July 13, 2013 The best part is removing the stator with those Phillips head screws. I ordered new ones but some go with a hex head when replacing them. this is where you WILL swear a lot . make sure you hard wire your new stator wires as well and maybe think about going with a HO Stator. love mine been great for the juice. I gave Mike (Eusa1 ) My OEM Stator last year not sure if he still has it or not. nothing was wrong with it.
Monty Posted July 13, 2013 Author #6 Posted July 13, 2013 Success!!! Just put a socket on the crank, & turned it a little bit, then it came right off.
Monty Posted July 13, 2013 Author #8 Posted July 13, 2013 Screws came right out from the stator. Had big round head screws in it, so I popped each one loose with vise grips first, then they came right out.
Monty Posted July 13, 2013 Author #10 Posted July 13, 2013 I ordered the stator, gaskets & crush washer yesterday. It's a Rick's Motorsport stator.
Cougar Posted July 13, 2013 #11 Posted July 13, 2013 Now order the New Mosfett R/R to match it for great results
