AngryAmish Posted July 12, 2013 #1 Posted July 12, 2013 80 degrees outside and I still need to pull my choke (when starting) or else engine stalls ! Any ideas why or is this normal ! Thanks
Prairiehammer Posted July 12, 2013 #2 Posted July 12, 2013 I have to use my choke whenever the engine is at room temperature. I'd say it is normal.
Yammer Dan Posted July 12, 2013 #4 Posted July 12, 2013 Its a Yamaha!! They just don't like to be woke up. A touch of Sea-Foam?? Mine will start without choke but it don't like to. So I use it to wake her up when first starting.
ACE50 Posted July 12, 2013 #5 Posted July 12, 2013 After installing larger slow jets (15 stock to 17.5) almost never use choke now unless it's below 55°. Better throttle response too. Same MPG.
usedcyclesales Posted July 12, 2013 #6 Posted July 12, 2013 I live 20 miles from you and have owned 6 2nd gen Ventures and 2 2nd gen Tour deluxe and only one I didn't have to choke. That one never had ethanol in it and had bub exhaust and was rejetted. That being said I think it's normal.
Snaggletooth Posted July 12, 2013 #7 Posted July 12, 2013 From a cold start in the morning before I even crank it I flip the choke to full and right back off. Pops right off. About half choke for a couple minutes to let it smooth out and that's it. After that first squirt in the morning it's good for the day.
JohnT Posted July 12, 2013 #9 Posted July 12, 2013 After a certain age bikes and riders share some similar traits. They all need different,,,motivation, from one another. Some more, some less,,um oh yeah, I'm talking about choke. Bike choke. I actually haven't had to use mine lately. Of course overnight lows have been well into the 60's.
V7Goose Posted July 12, 2013 #10 Posted July 12, 2013 I have no idea what kind of bike you have, but that is not particularly normal for a 2nd gen unless the pilot jets are gummed up. Goose
friesman Posted July 12, 2013 #11 Posted July 12, 2013 my 2003 needs a choke every morning, or if its been sitting even in the hot sun, for at least a minute or 2. Brian
Cheesehead in flatland Posted July 12, 2013 #12 Posted July 12, 2013 Not only do I need to use the choke, it seems I need to give it slight throttle when trying to start it cold. I ran a bottle of tectron through it and it seems to run well otherwise. I ride a 2003 RSV. Thoughts?
dacheedah Posted July 12, 2013 #13 Posted July 12, 2013 Mines newer and choke when very cool out 1st start of the day, never in the heat of summer
MiCarl Posted July 12, 2013 #14 Posted July 12, 2013 It's normal to have to choke a carburated engine that hasn't been running very recently. If you've got a cold engine (even 80 degrees is cold) and it'll start without choke you're probably too rich.
djh3 Posted July 12, 2013 #15 Posted July 12, 2013 My 09 if it has sit say overnight yup got to choke it. Maybe not long but it needs that little extra shot of go jusce to start.
Brake Pad Posted July 12, 2013 #16 Posted July 12, 2013 had to start mine that way every time I started the bike. it's normal
N3FOL Posted July 12, 2013 #17 Posted July 12, 2013 I have to use my choke whenever the engine is at room temperature. I'd say it is normal. I say it is just fine. I even have to choke my weedwacker for a few seconds. Always warm up Yamaha engines.
AngryAmish Posted July 13, 2013 Author #18 Posted July 13, 2013 i have no idea what kind of bike you have, goose '07 rsv
AngryAmish Posted July 13, 2013 Author #19 Posted July 13, 2013 Thank you everyone, feel better now that it is normal !! LOL
Guest Posted July 13, 2013 #20 Posted July 13, 2013 Most of us have to choke something when we first wake up...........
