Trike Rear to Front Tire.

OK Guys And Gals.

 

How are you doing with your REAR to front tire these days?

 

Are you reversing it?

 

Are you leaving it in the same rotation?

 

Have any of you had any problems with your front tire since you triked?

 

 

 

We have logged some miles, and have a pretty good group

of Trikers now , I was wondering what your thoughts are on the rotation

and the miles your getting out of the front tire these day?

 

My first tire was a Michelin Commander and it did pretty darn good I think

It was in the forward direction at the time I triked and never reversed it.

 

Then when that wore out I went with a Dunlap 404 rear for the front.

this tire cupped with in 5,000 miles. It also was in the forward direction.

 

So in a few days I will be getting a New Michelin II Rear tire for the front

and I am going to make it reversed I believe this time around. and make sure

the tire pressure is always at 40 to 42 lbs.

 

Just thought it would be a good thread for future interest for us Trikers

 

All I know is that I will never go back to a Dunlap 404 for the front of my trike in

the future.

 

I also have read all the articles about reversing the tire do to the belt construction

of a rear tire as well. seems to make since.

 

Some worry about water displacement being reversed, some say do to the belts on the rear

and if you use the front brakes lots its way better for the tire/belts.

NOTE: One free rear tire slightly cupped with 5K on it for free and you pick up

maybe it would be still good for a two wheeler and wear in right?

I just put a Commander II on Jeannie's trike. I have it mounted reverse rotation. So far she likes the tire, say's it grips well dry, no rain riding yet. Still too new to give an opinion on mileage or wear patterns yet, she's only put about 500 miles on it so far.

11,000 miles on our Avon Venom rear tire reverse mounted. Tire looks like new, no cupping or cracking. Rode 85 mph a few times and in torrential downpours on interstates. Rode twisties in Ozarks and Great Smoky Mountains. Tire is solid! Michelin Commander II has same basic tread pattern. Will try Commander II next time because I recall it is cheaper.

What tire pressures you guys been using? 42 ?

Yes, I use 42 psi. Some folks say use 50 psi in Venom rear tire, but I'm afraid to make our front tire that hard. Cupping comes from low inflation. Since I see no cupping, I'm staying with 42 psi.

40 psi here. I have only rode it in the neighborhood so far, may try a bit more air.

I have a rear on the front of an 07 Roadstar that is on the dark side. I have a rear on the front and have reversed the rotation several times over 45 k mikes and no I'll effects whatsoever on a parelli MT 66 and a metziler 880. Rear on front. On the dark side forum they used to say keeps our in reverse rotation they they changed it to either way, so when I rotate it I see much more even wear, before that I got a uneven wear down the sides of the center treads. Now that is not a factor. I rotate them every oil change at about 5 to 6 k miles. Amsoil!

All I can say is where has this Michelin Commander II been all my life

what an amazing tire and ride. so much different. almost like a whole

new ride . my steering and handling has been impacted greatly.

150/80/16 rear and reversed. 42 lbs.

 

Was kinda funny the guy I have known for years that does my tires at the Honda Shop

says ya know when you reverse that tire all that water gets tossed up under your front

fender that way. I said reverse it anyways !
