For those following my medical saga privately the last few weeks. I have a diagnosis. I have congestive heart failure from a leaky heart valve. I'm taking lasix and have to lose weight. I need my cheering section as I try this.

Tricia,

Have not been on forum much lately and didnt know of your problem. I am sorry to hear of the diagnosis. HOWEVER, I can tell you there have been MANY advances to treatment of your problems. My grandmother passed in 92 from same. Couldn't get much help or meds to help. This is a genetic problem fyi, you probably already know. My mother was diagnosed 13 years ago (8 years after her mother passed) and it scared her to death. Admittedly, the first few years were rocky as the med. advancements were not what they are now,, etc. BUT, the last 10 years have been wonderful for her. She is 74 years young, and while she now recognizes her limits and has to rest when she overdoes it, she is able to have normal quality of life, even taking 8 cruises in the last 10 years, even to Israel and south america. While everyone is different, I know, you can beat this.

You must, without fail, stay on the doctors and get regular checks on pressure, ekg's etc. If your meds dont work, change them. When her pressures fluctuate, she can manage all of it with meds. She gets tired of taking 7 pills at dinner, but hey, if that's all it takes, so be it.

Hang in there!!!! keep us posted and prayers you will have many many years ahead of you. Medical advancements with this problem are incredible. You are gonna be ok!!!!

Tricia, sorry to hear. Of of my closest friends received the same diagnosis a few months ago. it was the second time in 13 years. He underwent valve replacement surgery, again, at University of Michigan Hospital. He is 40 years old. They completed the surgery with no implications, and he is excelling is all areas. He just completed a 5K run!! Keep the chin up!

My Dad also had this. At 39 yrs old it was a bit shocking to get told this today. I know this is in part because of my weight struggles the last few yrs . I plan to lose the weight...almost 100lbs and get to a point where I can stop the meds. Doc told me it's not bad yet and I may be able to come off the meds after I lose weight.

Kat the weight thing isn't that hard. Eating at wrong times is worse thing. I try not to eat late at night now. I've went from 244 lbs down to 225. Its a start.... The more I loose the faster "Brown Sugar" gets!!!

When my mother was in her early 60's she went to her Dr. (a new one as her long time Dr. had retired.) complaining of putting on an abnormal amount of weight. My mother was never prone to being overweight so that was an unusual occurrence for her. The Dr. said "Well you know you are getting to a certain age." and passed it off. After about a year she had continued to get bigger and had gotten to the point where her face started to look like a basketball. I can only assume the rest of her was similarly bloated. To make a long story short, she went to a specialist in the big city who diagnosed her with congestive heart failure, one of the symptoms is serious fluid retention. Before she could have an operation to have the defective valve replaced she had to get rid of all the excess fluid or she would have popped like a balloon when they cut her open. Diet and drugs were the solution then. She got a new valve and lived a normal life to 85.

It's great that you finally found the source of your problem and hope that you too can have a long normal future.

Good luck with it Tricia. :thumbsup2:

Patty I just now saw this thread. I am glad the doctor's figured out the problem. I know if you stick to it you can lose the weight you need to lose. Just try to lose 5 pounds at a time. I know you can do it.

I hope everything goes well for you.

I'm not sure juicing is the answer as was in that video. I'm not a bad late night eater. And yes I eat alot of the wrong things and need more fruit and veggies in my diet. I probably need to lay off the pancakes and waffles (sniffle) every Sat morning. Roomie even makes whole wheat and buckwheat ones. I'm going to go check out a gym today and probably join. $30 gets me full access and a trainer if I need it. I know it only works if I use it...I plan to go everyday.
