Yammer Dan Posted July 8, 2013 #3 Posted July 8, 2013 I use 20/50 Castrol. Plain old car oil!! In my opinion anything else is a good way to throw money away!!!Use a good oil and change it as you should. OK back to the corner.....

Stache Posted July 8, 2013 #5 Posted July 8, 2013 That must be why 1st gens are faster Hmmm. It might also be why 1st gens are still around....
dacheedah Posted July 8, 2013 #6 Posted July 8, 2013 Ok boys, and gals, pull up your rockin chairs. I use the yamalube ( mostly because i'm still under warranty ) manual suggests 10w30 for cold weather, 20w50 for hot weather. Most dino is ok as long as no friction modifiers No matter what oil you choose replace the crush washer (214-11198-01-00) and torque to 31 ft lbs
dacheedah Posted July 8, 2013 #7 Posted July 8, 2013 That must be why 1st gens are faster Joe, did he say to use "old" oil in a first gen??
etcswjoe Posted July 8, 2013 #8 Posted July 8, 2013 Joe, did he say to use "old" oil in a first gen?? Yep he sure did and old "Car oil" at that.
sach57 Posted July 8, 2013 Author #9 Posted July 8, 2013 Thanks guys. I always used 20-50 in my 83 venture and have been happy with that. The book on the 99 shows 10-30 or 20-40 but nobody has 20-40.
Ventureless Posted July 8, 2013 #10 Posted July 8, 2013 I use Rotella T-6 full synthetic(5W-40) and it's on sale at Autozone for 19.99 a gallon. ++1
dacheedah Posted July 8, 2013 #11 Posted July 8, 2013 Yamaha used to make it but I haven't seen it in a while. The 10w-30 or 20w-50 pretty much cover the operating temperature you will be in.
