venture83_98 Posted July 8, 2013 #1 Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) Trying to finish up my '86. Just pulled the forks to replace the fork seals. I noticed my steering had a very noticeable notch on center. Pulled the steering stem and the bearings and upper race look and feel good. The lower race has 2 chunks out of it? So, does anybody have a lower race? I am trying to avoid buying the whole set, since I passed my budget awhile ago. Thanks in advance, Kurt Edited July 8, 2013 by Squidley
Bubber Posted July 8, 2013 #2 Posted July 8, 2013 My advice is to never use a used bearing. My thinking is that it takes to much work/effort to do it twice if it doesn't work correctly. Besides if your bearing has chunks out of the race there was more wrong with it than the bearing. It must have not been adjusted correctly.
bongobobny Posted July 8, 2013 #3 Posted July 8, 2013 Yup!! Bearing seats wear to the old bearing and the bearing wears to the old seat! Just replace the whole assembly, they are not expensive...
