LeeFreeman Posted July 5, 2013 #1 Posted July 5, 2013 Hello all, Brand new to the forum, just bought an 09 Royal star tour deluxe a couple months ago, so naturally I'm already looking for ways to make it better. I've been doing some research and I've heard nothing but great things about the Big Air Intake kit by Barons but they only offer it for royal stars from 96-01 models. I've looked everywhere and I can't find anything for a later model. Will the 96-01 fit an 09? Does anyone know if there is another company that makes something similar for the newer models? Thanks, Lee Freeman
Freebird Posted July 5, 2013 #2 Posted July 5, 2013 The thing is, I don't think it's needed on your bike. The earlier Royal Stars had very small air intakes and it resulted in a real hit on power. Your newer model has plenty of air intake and would really not benefit from that kit.
playboy Posted July 6, 2013 #3 Posted July 6, 2013 You want a big improvement one you can feel in the throttle and the seat of the pants. Install a set of V-Max rear gears.http://rmsportmax.com/gateway.html
k9cottage Posted July 6, 2013 #4 Posted July 6, 2013 don't want to steal your thread but are all the v-max diffs the same, as Tasmania AU is a bit far away to do an exchange so am thinking about doing it myself if i can find a vmax diff.
LeeFreeman Posted July 7, 2013 Author #5 Posted July 7, 2013 Thanks for the info. I'll look into that rear end,

To answer your question. No they are not. The early finals did not have a case that allowed for a speed pickup installation. The later cases do have the pickup configuration, but since I don't know how the later TD's sensed speed, you may or may not need the sensor hole. Either way the V-Maxes don't use the final as a speed source, but do have the flat spot for the sensor. So if your TD does pick it up off the final you'll still need to have it machined. So be careful on what you're buying. Or pick it up from our member who deals in them, and you'll get exactely what you need.
