I am looking for a REAL MAN!

Ok guys...this sort of thing happens...you all drive jeeps, and somebody gets a Toyota FJ...its just the way it is...some people take it as a rejection of what THEY ride...

In my circles, I have noticed that many of my former 'riding buddies'...are not as enthused about riding with me on the new RSV...but I have also noticed that with my TRUE friends, it doesnt matter what I ride up on, my Ultra, or my Venture...they are just glad to see ME.

So I think of the RSV as a type of filter...it filters out the wannabe friends from the real ones.

Last weekend I was riding with a group of about 5 other bikes, all Harleys, except for one, a Honda something. ( really, I dont know what it was!)...I was hanging mostly at the rear, as I like to do, and just following happily along, till I wanted to take a particular scenic road...and not knowing where the leader was gonna take us, I passed all my buds and caught up to the point man, and asked if he'd like to ride up that road...and he answered...lead the way...I yelled back, you wanna follow me then? (pointing to the non-HD Venture I was riding)...he said SURE!...SO...OFF WE WENT!...

Heres the scenario...ok...apologies, but you hadda be there...heres this crossover rider (me)...riding a Jap bike...leading a full armada of Harleys...up the hill, around the curves...thru the trees, past the houses, more hills, and all the way up to one of the highest roads in the Amarillo area...and I stopped at the top.

We all got off our bikes, admired the view, and I took a few pics...you can see my RSV second from left in this shot:

Point is...your REAL friends will enjoy your company...no matter what you ride.

Your friend is riding a Honda VTX Retro model. Can't tell if it's an 1800 or 1300 cc though. Judging by the size of the front disc brake, I'd say a 1800.

If the HD owners who develop that attitude knew how much of their bike was made in another country, well...HD has the american made handle because 51%. is made in the good old USofA. Goldwing has a higher % of US parts than HD. Iv'e misplaced a few "friends" over their american made rides, usually after I bust their chops on my rice powered 1300 RSV(been accused of using brown rice). But its fun to watch them unload their trailers at the events. Usually pulling their bike in a foreign made truck with a Harley wing in the back window.

Now that you mention it...I think he said it was a 1300...I'll ask him this weekend when I see the guys play.

No comment about any of the rest of the article huh?

Noticed your hitch. I started pulling a trl. on the sturgis trip last year. Had a problem with rear air shock, had to have it replaced when I got back. Have you experienced anything like that. Do not believe I had to much weight on it.

From what I have read, it seems that some of the stock shocks have a high failure rate. A trailer should only add around 20 to 40 pounds tongue load to the bike, and thats not enough to hurt anything...unless you were just flat overloaded with heavy rider and passenger, and lots of tongue weight with a heavy cooler...

Probably just coincidence.

Oh, I ride with a pretty eclectic group of bikes and buds here in CA myself. There are Victories, VTX's, and Harleys and nobody really cares what you ride. We're not hung up on that whole image thing and pretty much just ride what we like. Two of my Harley buds wear full face helmets when they ride. How uncool is that? :rotf:

One of my Victory buds makes of fun of my RSV for having a "Maytag" motor in it (Left the stock exhaust on it) until we open them up and he can't lose me.
