Nikon Posted July 4, 2013 #1 Posted July 4, 2013 I am going out to buy a used one today just wondering are the low speed issues people talk about that bad need to know before I buy previously owned a 1990 Goldwing and help soud be appreciated

Then, You will know soon enough after getting on it if the "low speed issues" are a deal breaker. Only you can decide, but only if you actually ride it before you buy.
M61A1MECH Posted July 4, 2013 #3 Posted July 4, 2013 I think the slow speed handling is not as bad as it is made out to be. This is a big heavy bike, make not mistake about that, but if you remember your basic instructions like, do not use your front brakes when doing slow speed maneuvers, especially avoiding the front brake when the bars are turned. Also remember to use a light pressure on the rear brake while using your clutch friction zone and throttle to control your speed you should not have any issues. If you have sufficient inseam to accommodate an extra 3/4" in seat height, the addition on leveling links will improve the nature of the beast in those slow speed turns.

Barrycuda Posted July 5, 2013 #8 Posted July 5, 2013 Harley ultras are a bit lower and easier to maneuver. That said, the venture is fine as long as you remember the things mentioned by Steve K. I am a shorter guy at 5'8 and the previous owner was shorter than me. It's lowered but more importantly is to ride the bike. Like our esteemed administrator once told me when I first joined...if you can't ride/ test ride it, don't buy it. Good luck and keep us updated. Barry
XV1100SE Posted July 5, 2013 #9 Posted July 5, 2013 Keep in mind that if the tires are worn or steering head is loose slow speed maneuvers and cornering won't feel quite right and can be corrected. Hopefully you read the "what to look for" in the 2nd Gen read only section.
Phoneman1981 Posted July 6, 2013 #10 Posted July 6, 2013 I eventually learned the slow speed techniques mentioned and really enjoy my bike more everytime I ride it. I would never own a bike without cruise control again. There are a few modifications that help the slow speed handling such as leveling links, lowering or a narrower front tire. RSTD and Ventures are a great value in my opinion. Keep us posted..
