Kevhed Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Just got a 90 vr with about 40k on it. Simple question- with the bike on the center stand, not running and in neutral, I spin the back tire forward and it sounds kind of like a roulette wheel. No noise going backward. I have a shaft drive Honda cx500 and it makes no noise in either direction. The bike runs great but I want to make sure this is not something to be concerned with. Thanks
Squidley Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Have you checked the gear oil in it? If you just got it, you probably haven't had the time to take the rear rim off and check the splines on the hub, or the driveshaft. This is routine maintenance that folks dont necessarily do, especially not dealers. There is lots of info on the site about greasing the splines and driveshaft, thats what i would be checking 1st
MasterGuns Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I think the noise you're hearing (while the bike is on it's center stand) is normal. By putting it on the center stand, make the rear wheel hang lower thus creating an even more angle in the u-joint. The added angle of the u-joint makes it pop when rotated.
