SpencerPJ Posted July 3, 2013 #1 Posted July 3, 2013 I have an 83 Venture. Is there a way to adjust the brake light switch for the front? Mine turns the brake light on at 1/2" squeeze, and I'd like it to be a bit more sensitive. I pulled the rubber boot back, it didn't look like it had any type of adjustment. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
Marcarl Posted July 3, 2013 #2 Posted July 3, 2013 If you look at the lever, on the inside, you'll find a screw with a nut attached. Here you can adjust the lever to the brake cylinder, which will also help out with the light switch. If it still doesn't work good enough, then the switch may have to come apart for a cleaning,, not a hard thing to do, just keep your eye on the spring.

Watch the spring when you take the switch apart. I found that I had great results by disassembling the switch and sanding the contacts with 600 grit paper. I found that one contact was lower than the other so I trimmed the base so the contact was flush with the surface. Reassembled and "voila"....all good. I'd say a two beer job when approached at a moderate pace. Thomas

SpencerPJ Posted July 4, 2013 Author #5 Posted July 4, 2013 That answered my question. There is no adjustment available with the front switch as there is with the back. Nice pdf file.
spear Posted July 5, 2013 #6 Posted July 5, 2013 Gee, you had me worried there for a minute. Here in Oz our brake lights are at the back. But then I read on and realized what you were talking about. D'oh me!
