bikenut Posted July 3, 2013 #1 Posted July 3, 2013 I know that others have posted this and Thank You all for that info it sure help me out . Just wanted to remind people that the fuel pumps fails at around 50,000 miles. I just checked mine and it was ready to go, points were almost gone. I have check three others this week and thiers were like mine or worse. One had only one side with the point left so If your bike has this amount a miles on this would be something to look at so you will not be on the side of the road not running. I replaced mine the the others two of the three did also. Fuel pump replacement is not hard at all,it is right behind the left side cover when your sitting on the bike but when you have it out replace your filter at the same time. I am planning a big trip next year out to Cal about 6000 miles and sure glad I checked mine now. This info is just for your heads up.NO one likes to be on the side out the road not running. And again Thank you to all the past poster that found this problem.
Prairiehammer Posted July 3, 2013 #2 Posted July 3, 2013 Keith, Were the worn out points on the fuel pump of the RSV or the 1986? The same basic Mitsubishi pump (with mounting changes) is used on several motorcycle brands. There is a repair kit for replacing the point/contact assembly available for $30-$50. An example here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fuel-Pump-Petrol-Pump-Repair-Kit-Honda-CBR-900-RR-Fireblade-/200694634286 And here (US seller): http://www.heartlandhonda.com/K&L-FUEL-PUMP-POINT-SWITCH-KIT-detail.htm?productId=17216829 And a How-To here: http://cbrforum.com/forum/stickies-91/how-repair-your-f3-fuel-pump-102151/
bikenut Posted July 3, 2013 Author #3 Posted July 3, 2013 it was on my rsv tanks for the ebay info also I am going to rebuild my old one and see how it goes
Power Trippin Posted July 3, 2013 #4 Posted July 3, 2013 Anyone have pics of what to look for? As I have never looked at my pump.
Prairiehammer Posted July 3, 2013 #5 Posted July 3, 2013 (edited) Anyone have pics of what to look for? As I have never looked at my pump. If it looks like this it might be time to think about a replacement: Edited July 3, 2013 by Prairiehammer
