XV1100SE Posted June 28, 2013 #26 Posted June 28, 2013 How does the seat come off? I have found the 10mm nut on the right side - left side is different - what is the tool? (I didn't actually crawl under to look yet). Two bolts and it pops off? There's really a switch for the passing lamps!?!?!?? On my '09 the seat nuts can be taken off with either a wrench/socket or allen key. Passing lights - if Yamaha instructions were followed then it is a little push button switch to the left of the accessory plug on the back of the fairing on the left side. If instructions were followed as posted here then it wouldn't use the OEM push button and would also have a relay in the power line.

The reason you have a different nut on one side is one fell off. Rick Butler makes some special hand nuts that make taking your seat on and off much easier - just $9. worth it! Don't know about the Passing lamp switch - what is that about?

On a 2nd gen, EDIT: when IF you find you can't keep up with a 1st gen, you press the "passing" button and it gives you an extra boost of power so you can show up those 1st gen riders who's only "claim" to fame is their bikes are faster.

I understand that is the VMAX rear end exchange that MikeWa has on his bike. Anyone what to talk about that? acceleration, mpg difference, top end etc

friesman Posted June 28, 2013 #31 Posted June 28, 2013 When you lose the shifter bolt, there is an extra one on your side cover you can use to get back on the road again. Carry a set of metric allan wrenches in your saddle bag. Use some blue locktite on every bolt you can get at. Especially the shifter bolt and rear fender bolts. BUT! DONT PUT LOCTITE ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR PLASTIC PARTS AS THEY WILL GET BRITTLE OR DISOLVE FROM THE FUMES . Brian

I get on the bike first, remove kickstand, plant my 2 feet then my wife gets on. Even at 110lbs if she got on while on kickstand, I found it too heavy for me to straighten up the bike. A friend asked me why i had stuck a cheap dollar store clock on the dash, when i had a clock on the bike already.... Showed me how to get to it...Hold down the odometer reset button for 3 or 4 secs and you get the clock display. Clock - 2nd gen - have to press SELECT and RESET at the same time to get the clock. Wow - cool, but mine is way off. How do I set the clock? ? unplug the battery right at midnight Figured it out. Select to get clock. Select and reset to get flashing hour, press reset to get to correct hour. Then press select to change to minutes - use reset to change minutes - then select to end. Ha, figured this one out on the road about a week ago - if she does get on first - as she is so clumsy getting on behind me, I ask her to lean right - that takes the weight off - if the ground is level -if overly leaning left then me first then her 2nd.

Go to Lowes (or even better, your local hardware store) and get wing nuts to replace them. Stainless or nylon. I think it's 6mm, don't remember the pitch. So, just take one in and size it. Some member vendor used to sell black nylon ones here. Great but he was $$$ for two. And, Yep, a little rubber protected push switch for the passing lamps, if wired correctly. You can turn them on/off while riding.
Brake Pad Posted June 28, 2013 #37 Posted June 28, 2013 Zero to 60 in four hours and 15 minutes did not know the fairing was two tone, someone pointed it out to me, about two years of owning the bike. Oh, extra outlet for Radars, but it never went fast enough to need one.
bongobobny Posted June 28, 2013 #38 Posted June 28, 2013 NEVER use a compressor to fill your air shocks, use a small hand pump. For a cheap drink holder and anti glare for the gas cap, punch the bottom out of a foam rubber can cooler and place on the gas cap, works great!

Get an extra cord and run one to the passenger. If you jumpped to an iphone5, just stick a 30 pin to lightning plug on and slap some heat shrink on that. works awesome

dacheedah Posted June 29, 2013 #50 Posted June 29, 2013 They stopped that cd player in the left side bag or trunk and replaced it with an isimple and an ipod. The cord for the isimple to ipod / iphone is like 6' long. Unplug and run it through the grommet for the bag so your phone connector is outside the bag and plug it in. You can control the ipod or iphone from your radio controls and it charges it.
