Eddy Posted February 17, 2008 #1 Posted February 17, 2008 My wife and I and 2 more couples want to visit Vermont, Adirondacks, Finger lakes, Burlington and possibly Mt. Washington in the last week of August. We're thinking about staying in Rutland, VT. We're thinking this area is central to the places we'd like to see and ride through. I'd appreciate any and all info, including places to stay that are biker friendly. Any additional suggestions would also be appreciated. We want to see as much as possible in the week we have to do it. Eddie Flinchum--Winchester, Ky.
Midnight Rider Posted February 17, 2008 #2 Posted February 17, 2008 My brother lives in Albany, NY and rides in that area alot. If no one on here can help you I will call him and see if he can help you out with some info. Dale
McBrush Posted February 17, 2008 #3 Posted February 17, 2008 Here's a post from last year with a few pics... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=112821#post112821 Rt 3 from Watertown to Saranac Lake is a nice ride, then 86 to Whiteface Mtn for a view of Lake Placid is a must. I've stayed at both the Comfort Inn and the Ramada in Rutland VT, nobody had issues with bikes. In fact, I can't really think of anywhere I've been that has been 'unfriendly'. Crossing Lake Champlain on the ferry is an experience too. I've crossed at Essex and Champlain Park (Plattsburg). Rt 100 north from Rutland is an excellent ride (you could spend days just riding up and down Vermont!). Rt 112 across the White Mtns in NH is nice, and north to Mt. Washington on 16 too, but I'm sure there are some folks up that way who can give you the best routes. I was on Mt. Washington on Aug 12 and it was 17F with the wind chill. I left the bike down below and took the tour bus up. Sounds like a nice trip for you.
jonesy Posted February 17, 2008 #4 Posted February 17, 2008 Niagara Falls, NY is a must see if you never been there, then cut down to rte. 20 across NY goes right thur finger lakes, nice ride, small towns, you could be only ones on road at times every one rides the thurway, wife and I take 20 across NY when ever need be. Do Rutland area couples of times a year, nice , Mt Washington a must see too., I won't ride up, but there other opitions. Pyro is the guy to talk to on NH. area.

The entire staff treated us very well.
Marcarl Posted February 17, 2008 #8 Posted February 17, 2008 Sounds like we need to plan another Meet & Greet in the Niagara Area. Let us know if you are planning on being in Niagara, we'll find a dump uhhhhhh I mean place to eat and have good time together. Meet & Greets around here usually take about 3 to 4 hours, so come with an empty loader.
Pilot Posted February 17, 2008 #9 Posted February 17, 2008 I grew up in those mountains and know the area well. The people are friendly and you won't have a problem. Vermont is very rustic and a very nice place to ride. Whiteface is an experience if it's a clear day. Have a good trip. You might as well go to Baa Habor as they say it in Maine (Bar Harbor) it's not that far from Whiteface and is a great ride also. Ahhhhh fresh Lobster for dinner.
