FROG MAN Posted February 16, 2008 #1 Posted February 16, 2008 Captain Bull a Delaware Indian chief settled the little community next door of Bulltown. Bulltown is famous for the civil war battle fought there. Our road has always been named Hemp Patch. Maybe this is where they raised there crop for the peace pipe. Anyway after living here most of my life we voted to change the name to Horseshoe Falls Lane. Were finally getting a fire locator address and took the opportunity to change. The wife never liked the name but I think my neighbor still carries on it's growing tradition for his peace pipe. :rotf:
royalstarjac Posted February 16, 2008 #2 Posted February 16, 2008 There is an unincorporated area and a voting district near where I live known as Hemp Town. Hemp was an important crop in early America. Thomas Jefferson grew hemp as one of his main crops.-Jack
cmiles3 Posted February 16, 2008 #3 Posted February 16, 2008 Hemp wasn't used for smoking, back then. It was imported to the colonies, for use in making ropes. Tribes used tobacco for ceremonies. Smoking hemp was a European/African thing.
Yammer Dan Posted February 16, 2008 #4 Posted February 16, 2008 Froggie's neighbors will give you a different version. And show you that Hemp is still a major crop!!!
Animal Posted February 17, 2008 #5 Posted February 17, 2008 Hemp is also used to make a linen-like fabric-marvelous stuff.
MamaMo Posted February 18, 2008 #6 Posted February 18, 2008 Hemp is used in many ways. I like using Hemp body and hand lotions along with goats milk lotions. But just could not see using a address Hemp Patch Run Rd, Ireland, WV. If you are using a gps though that will show up on it. Horseshoe Falls Lane, Ireland WV sounds so much better when you are telling someone your address. The story is that the Indians liked to grow Hemp in this hollow that is about 2 miles long.
