So I'm going led all over my bike. When I install led blinkers, will this work for the electronic flasher?

http://bit.ly/11qAfuF

One thing I want is to disable the self cancel. As I understand, a new flasher and LEDs will disable it?

Also, I've got my dash apart, I just soldered up the cms for putting in a hid headlight. I'll lube the speedo, along with replacing all bulbs with led.

Is there anything else I should do while in there?

Thanks all

To disable the cancel, pull the strip on the back of the speedometer that has the two wires running to it. This reads the magnetic impulses to do the cancel. I don't think I have heard anyone wanting to disable the cancel before.:confused24:

no, not without serious modifications, as the current flasher on your 87 is built into the 41R relay unit, that controls other operations as well. LED's will cause a fast flash rate with your current flasher, unless you use load resistors, but this defeats current (amp)savings LED's provide.

When I did my dash with all LEDs I wanted brighter so that I could see them when the sun is shining on the dash from over my shoulder. The one exception is the High beam indicator. I had a bright blue LED for that one but it was blinding at night, I had to order a less bright blue LED bulb.

As mentioned it will take other wiring mods to replace the flasher, but it can be done. the 41R relay also has the starter cutoff relay in it, you probably want to keep that.

I believe the sensor wires on the speedo are also used by the cruise control, so pulling those will also kill the cruise.

Load resistors for the turn signals is not an issue as far as amps are concerned. The load resistors would only affect the current draw while the turn signal is actually illuminated. How much time does the turn signal bulb actually spend on. Not much. When you have the turn signal on the bulb is only lit 50% of the time, and then you actually only use your turn signals a few seconds at a time. Worst case is that they may be on for a whole minute while sitting at a red light. a typical turn the signal is only on for about 15 seconds or less.

All of the other times you are getting the reduced amps of the LED bulbs in the running lights which are on all of the time.

Thanks guys!

I'm just used to turning the signal off by myself. What I'm not used to is turning it on two or three times to make one turn. I would feel safer without it. But I'll have to try it. I do like having cruise.

Flying fool or anybody that knows :)

What is the light count and color(s) needed for my dash LED conversion? I want to place my order. Would appreciate the help so I don't have to open it up to make sure before everything gets here?

I pulled the below list from another post, but the count looks high for my '89.

I agree with 1 red, 1 blue (high beam), 2 green (Nuetral light and cruise), 3 amber (2 turn signal, 1 cruise) and at least 2 whites - not sure on those. 5 sounds like too many. Any help is appreciated!

Here is the list of LED bulbs that I used. (so Far:whistling:)

All are from www.superbrightleds.com.

Not the cheapest bulbs around but I have never been disappointed with their products.

These are all far brighter than the incandescents they replace.

In the dash;

WLED-AHP, 194 LED Wedge Base Bulb, Amber, Qty 2

WLED-GHP, 194 LED Wedge Base Bulb, Green, Qty 1

WLED-B-90, 194 LED Wedge Base Bulb, Blue, Qty 1

WLED-CWHP15-TAC, 194 LED Wedge Base Tower White, Qty 4

Above is just for the dash, for the cruise you will need to add;

74-AHP or 74-A, #74, LED Wedge Base Bulb, Amber, Qty 1

74-GHP or 74-G, #74, LED Wedge Base Bulb, Green, Qty 1

74-BHP or 74-B, #74, LED Wedge Base Bulb, Blue, Qty 1

I have nothing in the place of the white headlight position since I have disabled my RLU for the HID headlight.

I have been very happy with this combination.

The dash is illuminated with a much whiter background that I can actually see at night and the dimmer will bring it down to just the right level for me. The other colored bulbs are also a lot brighter than stock so that I can see them at high noon with the sun behind me. the exception is the blue. The bright blue was to much to be on all the time at night so I got a dimmer one, cant really see it in daylight very good but it is just right at night.

They are NOT 194 wage bases. :confused24:

Are you sure about the dash lights? :)

:headache:

I would be happy to save the time if I can avoid tearing the dash apart this morning if i don't have the rights bulbs.

I also made the mistake of buying 1156 lamps too big to fit in the socket hole.

I like these: 4W 1156 from Canadian Cruiser Customizing. They are only $1 more than the ones available around the corner at the big box store.

:fingers-crossed-emo

Let me know. Thanks!

DOH!!

I just ran out and took apart my cruise display.

You are right.

The cruise bulbs are not 194 wedges.

I guess I have to order more LEDs and have some 194s I wont use yet...........

I have 2 styles of the 74s ordered to see which I like better.

A bright set and a less bright set. bright is great in the daytime but can be distracting at night.

This also is the input to the cruise control. If disconnected cruise will not work.

Whoops, I think your reply landed in the wrong post.

Thanks, ADavidson. Those are 194's it looks like. The same as used for the light bars ('cept color).

Correct thread for what original question was about.

See post #1 & #2.

People use resistors....but capacitors work to change the charge rate of the flasher relay AND allow you to use less AMPs. If the relay can be opened you can add or change the capacitance....:080402gudl_prv:
