DragonRider Posted June 20, 2013 #1 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) OK, for what its worth, in talking to a manager at my local Yamaha dealer, we were speaking about why Yamaha discontinued the RSV, he tells me that Yamaha is doing a total redesign of their bike. He was told at a meeting with them that the new model will be a brand new design from the ground up, I didnt ask him about the cassette, but the basis of the new touring bike will be based on the 1900cc pushrod v-twin that is now on the Roadliner. I know that is not what this hardcore group wants, but is sounds like something Yamaha would do,:bang head: he wasnt sure if it would be a 2014, or later, but said betting on a later date would be most likely. So there you have it, thats whats going on around Yamaha according to my dealer.:crying: Edited June 20, 2013 by DragonRider
SilvrT Posted June 20, 2013 #2 Posted June 20, 2013 See... they are all going to V-twins coz that's what the ladies like!! LOL
XV1100SE Posted June 20, 2013 #3 Posted June 20, 2013 Refer him (and Yamaha) to the two polls I started on what this gruop wants in a touring bike.
Mike G in SC Posted June 20, 2013 #4 Posted June 20, 2013 I sold my Strat to get a RSV. It's that simple.
GolfVenture Posted June 20, 2013 #5 Posted June 20, 2013 My next bike if there is one, will most likely not be a Yamaha...
Kirby Posted June 20, 2013 #6 Posted June 20, 2013 My next bike will probably be another used RSV. If I can't find one of those, it'll probably be a Wing.
tz89 Posted June 20, 2013 #7 Posted June 20, 2013 "I don't think Yamaha intends to redesign the Venture. I think this is a declining cash cow for them. As soon as it's not profitable to sell fewer and fewer it will be gone. I think they are positioning the road liner/strat platform for a variety of option packages including a bagger and lux touring. When they change the transmission to include a highway gear it'll be done - probably the same time they kill the venture, the vmax and the v4" http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=715774#post715774 This is still my opinion!
breese Posted June 20, 2013 #8 Posted June 20, 2013 I am afraid its time to admit that Yamaha is not interested in what their long time riders think or want. I beleive it is about economics and they are interested in attracting the newer younger breed that is looking at sports tourning bikes and sportster look a likes. I have been waiting to hear what they were going to do with 2014 models, before i made up my mind about what is probably going to be the last bike i purchase. I settled on the Road King and as of this moment am very happy with the new bike.
Sylvester Posted June 20, 2013 #9 Posted June 20, 2013 The new Indian Motorcycles (Polaris) will be air cooled Vtwin (of course) but with a unit construction. That way the cost of mfg. is reduced. Means no more independent transmission. But with the 110 ci engine it satisfies the public. And their Victory line is doing just fine with the Vtwin. I see the death of water cooled engines, except for Honda, which has a large client base.
ediddy Posted June 20, 2013 #10 Posted June 20, 2013 What the dealer said may be true but I won't believe it until I see it. If I had a dollar for every dealer that has said this over the past few years, I could buy a new bike.
mini-muffin Posted June 20, 2013 #11 Posted June 20, 2013 Our dealer has said pretty much the same thing. Margaret
DragonRider Posted June 21, 2013 Author #12 Posted June 21, 2013 Mini, if your dealer said the same thing, I guess its the Gospel truth then.....................:rotfl::rotfl: Our dealer has said pretty much the same thing. Margaret
mini-muffin Posted June 21, 2013 #13 Posted June 21, 2013 Means that the dealers are reading the same book. Or drinking the same water. Margaret

They are going after that HD Market big time!! If I had the cash I would grab one NOW cause if they catch on (and I got a hunch they will) I bet they will be a 28000 dollar bike in five years!! I was actually told buy an HD dealer that HD has dropped the Tour Glide and will be coming out with water cooled very soon... I really dont see water cooling going away, especially if the manufactures continue to get hit with more EPA regs, the leaner the engine has to run the more it depends on something besides air to cool it.. I actually think the days of the air cooled motor are limited..
SilvrT Posted June 21, 2013 #15 Posted June 21, 2013 I actually think the days of the air cooled motor are limited.. Won't matter to some of us as we're on our last new bike now ... (unless someone wins a lotto LOL) As for EPA ... only necessary for the mfg to comply as in most places, motorcycles aren't tested and it will probably be a long time before they are. Meanwhile, those that are equipped with CATs, 02 sensors, etc ... all that crap quite often gets removed or disabled by the owner one way or another. I'm doing mine next week.
