VentureFar Posted June 19, 2013 #1 Posted June 19, 2013 Will have to park my 07 RSV outside for 1 week in Colorado ( rains every day). Any suggestions on lightweight - cheap- waterproof- won't blow off - packs very small, cover? VentureFar...
XV1100SE Posted June 19, 2013 #2 Posted June 19, 2013 If you don't need to cover the entire bike, look at a bike "condom"
VentureFar Posted June 19, 2013 Author #3 Posted June 19, 2013 If you don't need to cover the entire bike, look at a bike "condom" Ha ha. For "just the right amount of protection "
XV1100SE Posted June 19, 2013 #4 Posted June 19, 2013 exactly ! Covers top end of bike, wind screen, instruments, seats, trunk.... something like $10 Really light, packs small. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/63/36792/ITEM/Vega-Bike-Condom.aspx EDIT - they may not be available anymore. Too bad... they offered great protection!
wes0778 Posted June 19, 2013 #5 Posted June 19, 2013 By looking on Fleabay, I've so far bought 4 for $0.01 each. Yeah that is a penny apiece. Combined shipping on the 1st 3 was $24.00 and $19.00 on the 4th one...
Guest tx2sturgis Posted June 19, 2013 #6 Posted June 19, 2013 I own two Ultraguard large touring bike covers and they work well. They pack down small, about the size of a small shaving kit bag. You will need to let the bike cool after riding it, for about an hour, then put the cover on. Also, you will need to fold the antennas forward, unless you dont mind leaving the 'ass end' of the bike exposed. If you put the cover in its storage pouch when its wet, expect it will be moldy smelling after a day or two in the heat. So when you get the chance, let it air dry, then store it.
VentureFar Posted June 19, 2013 Author #7 Posted June 19, 2013 I might just put a trash bag over the seats and clean it when I get back to the bike. It is otherwise garaged.
SapperMedic Posted June 19, 2013 #8 Posted June 19, 2013 Believe it or not, I have used the covers that they sell at Walmart, $18.95 and so far they each lasted over a year when we didn't have the covered parking at work. Now No Bike so No Cover:depressed:. Who knows Tom may be hauling some your way now.
Kirby Posted June 19, 2013 #9 Posted June 19, 2013 I've used 2 Bike Condoms in the last year. I worked at night so I'd put one on to keep the dew off the seat and windshield. If you are careful about putting it on they will last a long time, but they do tear easily. I didn't particularly like the name " Bike Condom" brandished across the front of the bike so I painted over the name. Other than the name, they work great and store really small. I think they might have gone out of business.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted June 19, 2013 #10 Posted June 19, 2013 I might just put a trash bag over the seats and clean it when I get back to the bike. It is otherwise garaged. Normal rain doesnt hurt these bikes at all. But UV from the sun is very destructive over time. Its cumulative. So the rubber, vinyl and plastics take a beating that cant be seen right away, but as the years pile on, the material changes...it fades, gets brittle, loses luster. Eventually, those parts get so bad they might have to be replaced. I'd cover it if possible but only because the sun, not the rain, is damaging it.
VentureFar Posted June 20, 2013 Author #11 Posted June 20, 2013 In that case then this 19.95 cover should do it Cyclegear http://www.cyclegear.com/CycleGear/Accessories/Security/Covers/brand/BILT/Motorcycle-Cover/p/32938_2 Thanks all. VentureFar...
Brake Pad Posted June 20, 2013 #12 Posted June 20, 2013 Wally world had some for big bikes, for like 24.00 dollars
CaptainJoe Posted June 20, 2013 #13 Posted June 20, 2013 Personally, I would just get a bright cover to hide all your goodies. The cheap ones are not waterproof, but would hopefully protect you from someone accidentally knocking your bike over because they didn't see it... Besides... If you've been riding it all day , it's already dirty... on ebay for $20-25 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Cover-Large-Cruiser-Touring-ds78n5/290714598434?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D8500231874166571732%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D290714598434%26

Any suggestions on lightweight - cheap- waterproof- won't blow off - packs very small, cover? VentureFar... With 7 bikes I buy lots of covers. The best one I've run into so far is the Cycle Gear BILT cover. Well made, sheds water like a duck, and a 5 year any reason replacement warantee. The RSV takes the XXL. And they are on sale for $49.95..... BILT is the private lable of Cycle Gear, and they hit the ball out of the park on this one.

friesman Posted June 20, 2013 #16 Posted June 20, 2013 this is the one I am ordering, I havnt used it but it looks like the best deal for what I want. Its small and it really only has to cover the top part of the bike so it folds up smaller. ( and I like that it comes in a colour to match my bike too!) http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/71/971/36883/ITEM/Show-Chrome-Ultragard-Classic-Half-Cover.aspx#VideoWrapperDesc
motorcycle_1300 Posted June 20, 2013 #17 Posted June 20, 2013 I bought one at Wal-Mart, very light very small a couple clips at the bottom to keep it on the bike, I added a couple light ropes for extra security. It was cheap and light for the proce I would consider it almost a disposable once a year. Get the extra large size. I am minly using it as a dust cover, fits in a small bag takes up less space than my tour master rain suit I put it on my Goldwing under my carport while I am away for the summer. So far it has survived Tropical storm Andrea, Al

VentureFar Posted June 28, 2013 Author #20 Posted June 28, 2013 Bought the Bilt at Cycle Gear on sale $19.95. Haven't figured out how to get the antennas under it yet. How much can they bend?
friesman Posted June 28, 2013 #21 Posted June 28, 2013 the antennas fold forward. just lift the knurled collars just above the base and fold forward. Brian
Condor Posted June 28, 2013 #22 Posted June 28, 2013 the antennas fold forward. just lift the knurled collars just above the base and fold forward. Brian And sometimes if the knurled sleeve part hasn't been moved lately it will take some effort to get it unstuck..... but it eventually will. All Y antennas fold down, from the '83 to present. The first gen's sleeve, as well as the first couple of years of the 2Gen, will unscrew and lift, and the later 2nd's just lift.
