ReinyRooster Posted June 18, 2013 #1 Posted June 18, 2013 As soon as my Wing sells, I want to pick up a 2nd Gen Venture...somewhere between approx. 2003-2008......were there any inherent issues with any specific years that I should be watching out for? Thanks.

mini-muffin Posted June 18, 2013 #3 Posted June 18, 2013 Rear shocks can go bad, ignition switch on some goes bad. Also the whine from the clutch. Other then that I can't think of anything. Margaret
bongobobny Posted June 18, 2013 #4 Posted June 18, 2013 Yup! That's pretty much it. The clutches can go, but there is a HD version clutch available from Yamaha as well as some aftermarket stuff to make it stronger and better. BTW Pioneer has a 2004(?) white RSV they just took in on trade last Friday...
M61A1MECH Posted June 18, 2013 #5 Posted June 18, 2013 Specific to the 07, some head bolts were not torqued properly, dealer can tell you by the VIN if that unit is affected and if it had been previously taken care of on that campaign. All years could suffer from clicking noise in the rear end, when backed up, there are 2 tech bulletins out to address proper alignment of drive shaft to rear hub and also greasing of the spiders in the rear end.
Mike G in SC Posted June 18, 2013 #6 Posted June 18, 2013 Several have also had to replace fuel pumps and stators. (I have) Not sounding like reliable,,, but they are!

All years could suffer from clicking noise in the rear end, when backed up, there are 2 tech bulletins out to address proper alignment of drive shaft to rear hub and also greasing of the spiders in the rear end. Some 08 models manufactured in 07 were also affected by the loose headbolts. Since this caused a coolant leak I would imagine any bike on the road would have been fixed by now. It would be an easy thing to have a dealer check the history on any bike you purchase just to be sure. Mike
kantornado Posted June 18, 2013 #8 Posted June 18, 2013 I have an 02 and have had absolutely NO problems at all. Over 100000 miles and just normal maintenance. Had the same with my 83 Venture. Outstanding motorcycle's.I just buy chrome and DO-DAD'S. You just need to pay attention to how many miles your putting on to keep track of rear tire and rear break replacement. LOVE THIS RIDE..........Ron:cool10:
meach Posted June 18, 2013 #9 Posted June 18, 2013 A lot of the afore mentioned issues seem to be random bike specific rather than a specific year. Some issues might depend on how well bike was maintained. When I was looking a little over a year ago I looked for specific years due to each year being a different color and any after market accessories on the bike, otherwise the bike really didn't change from year to year. The PO of the bike I purchased took good care of bike and had put several after market accessories on bike. Good luck on hunt, if you find something far away perhaps someone on the board here might be close and could check it out for you. at the least make sure its not a scam of any type.
