kevin-vic-b.c. Posted June 18, 2013 #1 Posted June 18, 2013 I just watched the news and saw commissionaire scooter and pick up collided. I know that is your area.... Please let us know you are well !!!
camos Posted June 18, 2013 #2 Posted June 18, 2013 Ya, that was me. Put a pretty big dent in the truck but I'm alright, just a big pain in my chest with slight pain in my left arm and leg. Thanks for asking. I'm very upset at the moment though. Heard on the news about an hour ago that I will be charged with running a red light. Haven't heard from the police yet though but got a call in to them when they start work to find out for sure. The green light light countdown timer was at 2 when I entered the intersection so there was still lots of time for me to get across. Not sure how this is going to play out. In any case I was pretty lucky.
Snaggletooth Posted June 18, 2013 #3 Posted June 18, 2013 Well dang! Glad you are in one piece. Hope all the stuff ends up working out in your favor and you heal up fast. Mike
SilvrT Posted June 18, 2013 #4 Posted June 18, 2013 So glad to hear you're not seriously hurt or worse Clive. Hope there were sufficient witnesses in your favor. Keep us posted pls. -Rick and Nina
Sailor Posted June 18, 2013 #5 Posted June 18, 2013 Any intersection cameras in that area? Could help. Hope you are up and riding soon.
MikeWa Posted June 18, 2013 #6 Posted June 18, 2013 Clive Glad you are not seriously hurt. Hope everything else works out. Mike
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted June 18, 2013 Author #7 Posted June 18, 2013 Glad you are wear quality helmet on duty. Take it easy and keep us in the loop.
camos Posted June 18, 2013 #8 Posted June 18, 2013 Thanks to all for the good wishes, they are much appreciated. Still haven't heard anything from the "Powers that Be" regarding my situation. Surprisingly enough, my helmet showed no visible indication of damage or any type of contact. It does point out that a helmet is not necessary in every collision. That fact will never encourage me to ride anywhere without one though. Since the subject came up, thought I would put that little tidbit out there to give solace and support to those who like to live on the edge.
camos Posted June 27, 2013 #10 Posted June 27, 2013 There are a few aches and pains remaining but for the most part I have recovered from the worst effect of the impact. Been trying to come up with something useful to take away from this incident but I got nothing except to thank my lucky stars since the consequences could have been so much worse It seems there are conflicting eye witness accounts so no charges are contemplated for anyone. Thanks for asking.
SilvrT Posted June 27, 2013 #11 Posted June 27, 2013 Clive, are you back on the job? What happened with your scooter... I assume that was owned by the city or whoever it is that you work for? Glad to hear you're doing ok.
camos Posted June 28, 2013 #12 Posted June 28, 2013 Yes, I'm back at work. Took one day off because the pain was too intense to work, actually to do much of anything, but after that it was bearable so I returned. We are somewhat shorthanded. It was on my work scooter which unfortunately was a total write off as it was almost new with only 2000 km. They just started to replace the Honda Jazz scooters, which were discontinued, with the Honda Giorno. I was riding the first replacement, kind of embarrassing to have wrecked it. It doesn't take much to total one of those little scoots. They are only about $2400 so even after two years it is questionable to do any major maintenance on them. I had put about 35,000 km on my last scoot over the course of about 18 months when the CV drive belt went on it. Someone was doing some math.
Trader Posted June 28, 2013 #14 Posted June 28, 2013 May be no charges....but were you exonerated from any wrong? Much like a charge of child molestation....people figure guilty until proven innocent...and then there is always a shadow of doubt. (just to make sure you know I am NOT speaking from personal experience!)
SilvrT Posted June 28, 2013 #15 Posted June 28, 2013 but were you exonerated from any wrong? Clive ... exonerated from ANY wrong? (do we have enuf "exonerate"?)
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted June 28, 2013 Author #16 Posted June 28, 2013 the "problem" with eye witnesses, no 2 witnesses seem to see the same thing with their eyes.
camos Posted June 29, 2013 #17 Posted June 29, 2013 May be no charges....but were you exonerated from any wrong? To be exonerated it is necessary to have a trial. To have a trial it is necessary to be charged with an offence. No charges mean no trial which also means no exoneration for either party. Much like a charge of child molestation....people figure guilty until proven innocent...and then there is always a shadow of doubt. Not the same kettle of fish here unless with your analogy you think the child is somehow to blame. In this case, one story is correct or the other one is correct or neither are correct. The "truth" often depends on witness statements. Through my job I get to observe a lot of trials in traffic court and I can tell you without any stretch of the imagination witness statements are not worth the powder it would take to blow them to Kingdom Come. (just to make sure you know I am NOT speaking from personal experience!)Yah, sure, but that's just your side of the story. Clive ... exonerated from ANY wrong? (do we have enuf "exonerate"?) Thanks Rick...I think. Good to know you are in a corner anyway. In any event that is probably the safest place to keep you.
