GW_in_TX Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Bone stock 98 RSTD is experiencing some pop at idle from the right side. Nothing loud but definitely not normal. Any ideas and recommendations would be appreciated.
djh3 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Milage? I was tought a trick alot of years ago when I went to work in a garage. Hold a dollar bill (or other light paper or rag) by the exhaust pipe. If it trys to suck it back inside you have a burnt valve. Some may say hog wash, but it has helped me figure out more than one bad valve. More than likely it is AIS related would be my guess. Block AIS and see if it goes away.
vzuden Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I had popping at idle a few weeks ago. I syncd the carbs and put a can of seafoam in it and the popping stopped. Not sure which one did it. The carbs were just a little off
corcoran975 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Re sync carb cure my popping from exhaust, I have 06 RSTD which has popping sound at idle and when give a little gas it became very noticeable, I add seafom which helps a little, but after I resync the carb with the CARBTUNE PRO the popping stop. I purchased the Carbtune Pro that takes about a week to get to my house and the whole process took only about 15 minutes, now the bike idle as if new from factory. No more popping and no more vibration while ridding. Thanks to all the wealth of knowledge in this forum. George
GW_in_TX Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Thank you all very much. I will be ordering the carb tune tonight!
billmac Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I ordered the Carbtune pro 4 and don't get it for at least two weeks. seems to take forever to get anything from CA.
