On June 14, 2013 at 0749am, officers of the Madison Police Department responded to Interstate 55 Southbound near the 110 mile marker concerning an accident involving a tractor trailer and a motorcycle. Witness accounts confirm that three motorcycles were travelling southbound on Interstate 55 when traffic began to slow near the 110 mile marker.

 

One of the riders, 29 year old Steffie Mitchell of Jackson, MS lost control of her 2005 Suzuki GXS motorcycle and collided with the rear of a tractor trailer that was slowing for traffic.

 

Ms. Mitchell was pronounced dead on the scene and the accident remains under investigation.

 

With the assistance of the Madison County Sheriff's Department, traffic on Interstate 55 was rerouted so that preliminary information could be obtained for the reconstruction of the accident.

 

Further information will not be released until all findings involving the accident are complete.
