WildBill1 Posted June 13, 2013 #26 Posted June 13, 2013 ,,,, anything on the RSTD????? Okay, when was the last Midnight RSV,,, That's where they broke the mold. If I were looking to buy one to put in a vault,, that would be it.[/quote Well, wouldn't you know it just when I let my 06 Midnight Venture go Yamaha would do this. Traded last Saturday, on a 09 Screaming Eagle Dana. I'm happy also bought a (4) year Harley warrenty as part of the deal.
XV1100SE Posted June 13, 2013 #27 Posted June 13, 2013 Motorcycle web page that lists the new models, status of the Venture - http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcycles/2014models/2014-Yamaha.htm 2014 Touring class : Stratoliner Deluxe - no trunk, air cooled, vtwin, belt drive. Silverado - back rest, no trunk, air cooled, vtwin, belt drive V-Star 1300 Deluxe - liquid cooled, vtwin, belt drive V-Star 1300 Tourer - blah blah blah V-Star 950 Tourer - blah blah blah Full baggers is what they are, NOT touring bikes. Yamaha has left the true touring bike market. They go from having one of the best, unique in its class bikes, to "discontinued".
Mariner Fan Posted June 13, 2013 #28 Posted June 13, 2013 I'm just glad I have mine. I suspect it will last me a good long time.
Snaggletooth Posted June 13, 2013 #29 Posted June 13, 2013 Feb 2013 article on "Best Used Bikes"... guess what they say is one of the best used bikes? And the club got some good hype there also.
XV1100SE Posted June 13, 2013 #30 Posted June 13, 2013 I don't know if it would make a difference but one thing we could do is let Yamaha know that they have abandoned a great bike. I've sent Yamaha Canada an email and asked that they forward it to Yamaha Corporate... you never know... it might help resurrect a 3rd Gen . Certainly can't hurt. Copy of what I sent : I see that Yamaha has discontinued the RS Venture after the 2013 model year. As a satisfied owner of one of the best touring bikes on the market that met a price point below the Gold Wing and Harley touring bike, I am disappointed that Yamaha discontinued the model rather than update it. Leaving the model unchanged for 14 years (and still including a cassette deck in the 2013 model) hasn't hurt the strong following of the RSV as a bike that met all the requirements for a touring bike - large fuel tank, liquid cooled, large trunk and saddle bags, low maintenance shaft drive.... Parked among Harley's, Wings, and Victory's, my RSV catches the attention of the other bikers and future riders for its looks and features. Only thing Yamaha had to do was minor updates such as ABS, remove the cassette deck and add guages, fix the notorious clutch basket whine... and it would still be one of the best TOURING bikes on the market. A Feb 2013 refers to the Venture as one of the "Best Used Bikes" despite being unchanged. http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/02/22/yamaha-star-royal-star-venture-best-used-bikes/ By discontinuing the Venture, Yamaha has left the touring market. What is listed as a 2014 Yamaha "Touring" model is nothing but v-twin, belt drive "baggers". For those of us ride and want an updated TOURING bike but don't like the looks of the Victory Cross Country, the "tupperware" of the Gold Wing, or the unreliability of the Harley.... you've left us without a true Yamaha TOURING bike. Unless Yamaha brings back the Venture in the future with the things that a touring bike should have... this will be my last Yamaha even though I've been a loyal Yamaha customer for years. I ask you to forward my disappointment to Yamaha Corporate (Japan) as I'm sure a number of other Venture owners will be voicing their thoughts on the loss of a great motorcycle.

XV1100SE Posted June 13, 2013 #33 Posted June 13, 2013 On a positive note.... maybe it will start a run on Ventures. Just like what happened to the "Twinkie" when they went bankrupt. Watch for pricing on EBay to triple for a Venture ! People will start hoarding them !
pmelah Posted June 13, 2013 #34 Posted June 13, 2013 Don i think you spoke for a lot of us in that statement you made to Yamaha but i will be voicing my opinion as well along the same lines you spoke of
djh3 Posted June 13, 2013 #35 Posted June 13, 2013 I hate to say it but if it puts a rush on RSV and I can get more out of it than I paid for it. I'll be minus one red/black RSV. If some knucle head wants to pay me say 18K for it I'll be at the Victory dealer next day. I like my Venture but hey if I can make money on the deal......... Being I own one I can asure you they aint gonna go up in value. Nothing I own ever goes up.

I kinda figured you probably got a new shinny black Harley. Sounds really nice. Yours was the RSV I was thinking of. Someone got a sweet ride! Oh, and just bought a box of filets last week! Enjoy the ride. Mike G.
Yamamike Posted June 13, 2013 #37 Posted June 13, 2013 I think we can expect something to go up against the Goldwing in the next couple years. I won't be surprised to see a full frame mounted fairing and all the bells and whistles.
Wade 2000 Posted June 13, 2013 #38 Posted June 13, 2013 Yamaha does not intentionally put themselves out of any profitable market. Rest assured if they discontinued the second gen a new touring model is ready for production. I don't know if a 2014 is in the works but they won't be missing out on the touring demographic for long. To me this is good news knowing a new model is inevitable. If I am not mistaken the complete new model year is not announced until Sept-Oct and the dealers I've talked to say that Yamaha is very tight lipped on releases. They find out pretty much when we do.
aharbi Posted June 13, 2013 #39 Posted June 13, 2013 I love the Venture and more importantly my wife loves "her" (ours) Venture. I don't plan on ever selling it nor trading it in on anything. I hope it will last till the end of my riding days. I picked up a 2013 Triumph Trophy SE so my new bike crave has been satisfied. But my wife only rides on the Venture. Who knows what Yamaha will do in the touring market but should something catastrophic happen to the Venture and I would need to replace it in the near future with something WITH A TRUNK I have my eye on the Victory Cross Country. I want updated electronics and ABS.
BG Hawks Posted June 13, 2013 #40 Posted June 13, 2013 All I can say is WOW!?!? We do have the best kept secret in the riding world. Keeping my 06 for a long time; heck, I'm still looking to add a few things...trunk rack, passing lights, trunk wing, saddle bag rails, chrome, chrome and o yea more chrome.
XV1100SE Posted June 13, 2013 #41 Posted June 13, 2013 Harley was reported to be discontinuing models as well (Apr 30, 2013) http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news--general-news/harley-to-discontinue-six-models-for-2014/22687.html. From http://forums.cycleworld.com/showthread.php?t=253038 "The 4 H-D models which sold in insufficient numbers are: the Sportster XR1200X, the Softail Blackline, the Electra Glide Classic FLHTC and the Road King FLHR. However, the Road King's versions have different destinies: the FLHRC will no longer be sold in the US, while the FLHR will be abandoned outside the US. Two Road Glides will no longer be available for 2014: the Custom FLTRX and the Ultra FLTRU. These are said to be completely redesigned and manufacturing them requires new tooling and parts, but Harley-Davidson does not specify when will they be available again."
djh3 Posted June 13, 2013 #42 Posted June 13, 2013 Last announcment HD had about "totaly redesigned" They changed the paint, included some high dollar CVO paint scheme and added what I though was minimual changes. Total redesign to me is it looks different from what was produced in that model line before. IE: the gen 1 and the Gen 2. Vivtory had the Kingpin line as a touring bike for a few years, then redesigned and fine tuned the line into the Cross bikes. Seriously I think Yamaha will take the Stratoliner Deluxe, add a few morsals and call it a touring bike.
Mike G in SC Posted June 13, 2013 #43 Posted June 13, 2013 At least HD appears to print what they are going to do. So far looks like we have to figure Yamaha out by what they don't say, by posting what's left or new. "But there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out."
Carbon_One Posted June 13, 2013 #44 Posted June 13, 2013 "Seriously I think Yamaha will take the Stratoliner Deluxe, add a few morsals and call it a touring bike." If they do that they'll be messing up big time for sure. I do think they'd be on the right track if they offered an improved V-4 configuration even if it was a fixed fairing bike like the 1st gens. Either way it'd have to be a big improvement over my 09 before I'd swap bikes. Who knows for sure till Yamaha brings out their line up in the fall. Larry
Condor Posted June 13, 2013 #45 Posted June 13, 2013 I'm waiting for the V6 based on the new V-Max motor. I don't care what tour bike they stuff it into. If BMW can shoehorn a transverse inline 6 into the 1200LT frame, surely Y can slip a 3 wide into something they already have with room to spare. I bet it would rattle the cages of the other builders, and capsure a big market share of the new bike touring market. All I gotta do is live long enough to see it.....
Venturous Randy Posted June 13, 2013 #46 Posted June 13, 2013 I think we will see a couple of years off on the Venture and see a return with a detuned V-Max engine. I say this because Yamaha spent a lot of money on the V-Max v-four to just sell it in the few V-max's that are sold. I believe the big factor will be the economy and how much fun money will be available for the masses. If sales are down on most items that are more for recreation than necessity, it may take a awhile. Not to be political, but I believe the world is waiting around to see what is going to happen with our health care system and what the cost is going to be and like many, I am concerned it is going to cost us all a lot more. Semi-retired Posted June 13, 2013 #47 Posted June 13, 2013 (edited) As Don (XV1100SE) knows from working at Toyota.....and as I learned while working at Mitsubishi Electric for 10 years, there's almost no accounting for what goes on in the minds and/or hearts of Japanese marketing executives. Mitsubishi was a HUGE player in the color television business, now they're virtually out of it (except for gigantic screens of 73 inches and larger) while a plethora of other brands still seem to be making a good living with screen-sizes ranging from 22 inches all the way up to the 40's and 50's). Japan didn't ask my boss (the GM in Canada), nor, I suspect, did they ask US headquarters in California. They sort of march to a different drummer, Japan-side. As many have suggested, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see an exotic, mind-blowing replacement for the Venture hit the streets a year or two from now, with ALL the bells and whistles...and as someone said, the dealers will likely find out about it hours, possibly DAYS before we do. If the market is profitable, YamaJapan won't be ignoring it. In the meantime, I wouldn't count on (fully) retiring by selling my current RSV (even though it's the much-lauded Midnight), but, I agree, there will probably be a 5-10% up-tick in resale prices of our bikes on the second hand market. Also, rest assured, Yamaha hasn't lasted 126 years by making colossal product development errors! Edited June 14, 2013 by Semi-retired
Prairiehammer Posted June 13, 2013 #48 Posted June 13, 2013 One curious thing about Yamaha marketing that I can't wrap my pea-brain around: why do they cease production and marketing of a particular model (G1 Venture, G1 VMax, etc) then return with a new version of the marque years later? Why not just introduce the new version in the next model year? Are they fearful of having unsold old versions sitting on the showroom floor next to the new version? Most all motorcycle dealers have brand new, never sold, one or two year old bikes on the floor, trying to sell the leftovers simultaneously with newest model.
Semi-retired Posted June 13, 2013 #49 Posted June 13, 2013 Are they fearful of having unsold old versions sitting on the showroom floor next to the new version? Most all motorcycle dealers have brand new, never sold, one or two year old bikes on the floor, trying to sell the leftovers simultaneously with newest model. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with inventory rationalization.....from bikes on the dealer's floor...to cassette decks in the warehouse!
bj66 Posted June 13, 2013 #50 Posted June 13, 2013 Harley was reported to be discontinuing models as well (Apr 30, 2013) http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news--general-news/harley-to-discontinue-six-models-for-2014/22687.html. The RoadGlide.org people are guessing that in 2015 the Road Glide will be liquid cooled. Of course that is rumor, but it has been going around for sometime now. They are saying radiator hidden in the lowers. Of Course the only one who knows is H-D itself. The Road Glides are really selling now, so discontinuing the RG doesnt make sense. The other thing that I have read is that the fairing needs to be retooled. They have some quality fitment issues, so new tooling is needed. Some of the inners arent passing specs, so they need to retool. Of course you read alot on the internet....Time will tell.
