Yammer Dan Posted June 11, 2013 #1 Posted June 11, 2013 I made a gas stop at about the last exit in Ohio on my way back from MD. Had a good short conversation with 3 Hardley riders at the station. We started back onto the Interstate at the same time and I happened to be a couple bike lengths in front of the line. I heard the Hardley behind me begin to bellow. You know what "Brown Sugar" thinks of that.... I was easy on her and shifted to 4th between 100 and 105 MPH and she was still climbing. Something just made me think of Dingy?? Never did see that Hardley again.
Marcarl Posted June 11, 2013 #2 Posted June 11, 2013 Dingy has his own way of blowing past first gens,,, I think he takes a bow first, then checks to see if all 4 are actually sparking,,, which gives a normal 1st gen time to wake up and watch, and then it's goodbye, see you in the next state charlie!!!

A hardley came sneeking up behind me, ya know how sneeky an unbarebly loud hardley can be. One of those goofy lookin things, ape hangers so high he could barely reach them, wearing a wife beeter t-shirt and sunglasses. Didn't even acknowledge me as he inched passed me, while squinting from all of the air turbulence. The hardley was so loud I could not even see straight. I shifted down 2 gears, pulled up along side him, nodded, still no response....now I'm pissed....time for a lesson...... after I got to 110 and he was no where in sight, I dropped back down to 75 and smiled all the way home. That was a great ride!!!!!!
Big Lou Posted June 11, 2013 #4 Posted June 11, 2013 i REALLY love stories like this... just gives one,, pride and its blue too
Snaggletooth Posted June 11, 2013 #5 Posted June 11, 2013 (edited) Too much effort for the trouble. (if not more fun though) You can shame those guys at a stop light without moving a foot. I had a group of "them" running behind me in a 4 four lane road going though town here. When I pulled up to a stop light one of them pulled up next to me in my lane (which bugged me) with his GF on the back. Two of the others pulled on along side in the other lane. I looked over at the guy next to me a he just gave me the "look" and turned away. His GF gave me a lil wave and I nodded back. They started cracking their throttles and their pipes were rattling my teeth. The one next to me gave me a grin and was laughing. Simple enough for me. Locked down the front brake and let the rear tire loose and lit it up. I didn't care, had a new set waiting in the garage anyway. With the MAC pipes I can throw off a lil racket myself at about 5K RPM. When the light changed I pulled away from the smoke cloud and rolled across the intersection and on down the road. Never got over 35 MPH. I held back and changed lanes about a mile away to hit the Interstate ramp. By that point they had to come around and pass me. The rider that was next to me would not even look over. His GF was slapping him on the back and laughing her butt off. She shot me a big wave and a thumbs up as they went. The other two guys had stiff necks to. Couldn't turn their heads. Schooled by an old man on an old bike. Ahh the shame! But it's a refreshing moment to do that every once in while. Venturous Randy Posted June 11, 2013 #8 Posted June 11, 2013 The one I remember the most was an encounter with one of those Big Dog type Harleys. We were making a left turn on to I26 with two lanes turning left, He was on my right as we were waiting on the light to go green. He was sitting there rapping his throttle and it was VERY loud. When the light changed, I paced him and when we straightened out to go up the long on ramp, which changed to one lane, he nailed it. So did I. With him having a longer radius, he had a bit of a run on me, but I was right in the middle of the sweet spot of 1st gear. By the time I was in 2nd, I was pulling him. By then, we were getting fast and going to have to merge and there was a car at the top of the hill in the front of me merging, so I slowed with him right against me. As soon as I made sure there was no one else coming, I swung to the inside lane and again pulled him. Since I had already done more than I should have, I shut down and let him go on with him wide open. Yep, you guessed it, he would not look over at me when I waved at him. RandyA
saddlebum Posted June 11, 2013 #9 Posted June 11, 2013 Reminds me of the 1st meet and great I went to. Now known as Marcarl's Venture-in. Well Rocket was doing a stint at Camp Borden in Barrie and came down to my place. Being the nice guy I am I allowed him to ride on the back rather then take his rental car. ( He was warned however that should we come across a good looking female hitchhiker ......he was on his own). Anyway on the way home we approached a small group of Harley riders. As we pulled alongside and they noticed a Jap bike about to go past much less one with two guys forming a combined weight of about 500 LBS. of overweight human flesh, they turned it on. Too bad for them .....they only succeeded in embarrassing themselves more as the old girl effortlessly left those hogs behind to wallow in their own loud noise. On another occasion as I was loaded with camping gear, for my 1st MD at Don's I was just easing along the right lane of the QEW to meet the rest of the group at Casablanca. Suddenly a young couple with a nice new Harley Sportster, pulled up beside me. He yells at me saying why don't I get a real bike and the two of them proceed to sit there and laugh at me. I yelled back I'll rush out and get one right now, then dropped a gear rolled the throttle wide open and vanished as though I was figment of their imagination . Don't get me wrong I got nothing against Harley's or their owners. Just the ones who suddenly think they are in a higher class because they own one. As far as I am concerned motorcycles are just motorcycles and we are all just motorcycle riders.
rickardracing Posted June 11, 2013 #10 Posted June 11, 2013 Even though I am on a lowly......second gen..... I welcome the oportunity to go against a Harley.
Ozlander Posted June 11, 2013 #11 Posted June 11, 2013 It's bad to do that, but they just make it sooo easy.

uncledj Posted June 11, 2013 #13 Posted June 11, 2013 (edited) Hey... I posted a couple of years ago about smoking my friends Harley and the folks on this site gave me a lot of heat about it. Mostly that it was dangerous to do so, and that Harleys weren't built for racing and such. How come you guys get an attaboy??? http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52516 Edited June 11, 2013 by uncledj wanted to link thread
Dano Posted June 11, 2013 #14 Posted June 11, 2013 Hey... I posted a couple of years ago about smoking my friends Harley and the folks on this site gave me a lot of heat about it. That's because it was your friends Hardley!!
Dano Posted June 11, 2013 #15 Posted June 11, 2013 I thought just looking at the title you were thinkin' about the Saturday nite "drink" that you had when I was leavin'.......
dingy Posted June 11, 2013 #16 Posted June 11, 2013 Hey... I posted a couple of years ago about smoking my friends Harley and the folks on this site gave me a lot of heat about it. Don't worry about, I gave a couple of 1st gens a Tweety demo this weekend. I didn't do all this work just to look at it. Use it or lose it. I am fairly careful about areas I will abuse Tweety, city light hopping is not a smart place for it. But it is often where the Hardley's appear. And, I almost never do anything on group rides. Sorry Wayne, you were an exception, but you started it. Gary

The rest of the thread was held to a general discussion, mostly on Sporters and riding results. I don't think anybody was on your case. Also, different time, different feelings, and different words in a different order will trigger various responses.
Yammer Dan Posted June 12, 2013 Author #19 Posted June 12, 2013 I'll just stick with my original answers.....
