Donvito Posted June 13, 2013 Author #26 Posted June 13, 2013 Well the problem was the master cylinder. Bought one on ebay, put it on and it worked immediately. Bled all 3 bleed screws, got all the air out and got a hard pedal again. It's good to be hard. Thanks for all the information. I learned a lot about how my rear brake system works. Don't know what I would have done without this site and it's "riders". Getting a set of E3's mounted Friday. I can't wait to get it back on the road.
Prairiehammer Posted June 13, 2013 #27 Posted June 13, 2013 Bled all 3 bleed screws, got all the air out and got a hard pedal again. Just to be certain: with the rear wheel off the ground (bike on center stand) idle the engine in gear and apply the brake pedal. That application should cause the engine to stall and be confirmation that the rear brake is in fact operating. When I was having my issues with the rear brake, I too had a hard pedal, but the rear caliper was not operating at all.
mraf Posted June 13, 2013 #28 Posted June 13, 2013 Sounds like you fixed the problem. The next time you go to bleed any system first build a negative balance bottle. Take a used clean pop bottle drill a hole in the cap big enough to stick a clear hose that fits over the bleeder screws. Put some brake fluid in the pop bottle enough that the end of the hose is in the brake fluid. Take the hose and make a circle of it and hold it as a circle by using a zip-tie, somewhere between the cap and bleeder screw. Bleed away! This helps by not letting any air get back into the system on any short throw pumps.

Did what you said and the engine stalled so I guess the rear brake is working. Next I'll jack the front and spin the front wheel and try that one.
