Venture East

Two years ago, we did our 5 week 13,000 km Venture West, making it to the west coast. The day we arrived home from that ride, my wife Anne announced that we should ride to the east coast next. Well, we finally have some time (almost 4 weeks) for that ride, and we headed out this morning. After attending Maintenance Day, we will head east across Pennsylvania on 6 and then wind our way up to the Lake Placid area, then the US NE states before returning to Canada to tour New Brunswick, Nova Scotia including Cape Breton, Newfoundland (if time permits), PEI and back home through Quebec by way of the Gaspe. My wife[did a blog for our Venture West trip for friends and family that I also posted and the positive feedback surprised me. So, we have started a similar blog for our Venture East trip, with our first post today. For those interested, you can see the blog at

Here is a picture taken this morning as we departed.

(Hope the URL and pic post ok)

I've done much the same trip a couple of times, (including one that was tragically cut short at Peggy's Cove). You guys be safe. I will be following along.

Evan' date=' I look forward to reading about your experiences. I don't see tubby in the photo. Did you not bring your trailer this time?[/quote']

Dave, we left our faithful trailer Tubby behind this year. Trying to travel a bit lighter. Also, still messing with how to copy in the blog site so it works as a hot limk. Trying again below to see if that works. See you at MD!

Have fun and be careful. The last I heard Rt 6 was congested with drilling and fracking trucks. Watch your six!:backinmyday: While you are up that way check out the Zippo Lighter/Case Knife factory/store in Bradford, Pennsylvania Lumber Museum, the PA Grand Canyon and the gas street lights in Wellsboro. Ride Rt 287 from Wellsboro to Jersey Shore if you get a chance. Nice road and great scenery. Also check out the Woolrich outlet store in Woolrich, PA and Cabelas in Hamburg, PA. Gettysburg is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the battle this year. Lots to see there also. The Harley-Davidson factory is located in York, PA. Tours may be available. Oh yea, the Hollywood Casino at Grantville, PA, exit 80 off of Rt 81. Then on your second day..................

Thanks to all who provided comments here and in PM's. For those who recommended the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon just off 6, I can testify that it is definitely a must see for those riding in the area. We are now in NYS on 30 heading towards Lake Placid area - more amazing roads!! Today in Honsdale PA, I toured by far the largest and most amazing bike shop called Rusty Palmers, with Yamaha topping the list of bikes it sells. Several pics of the place are in our blog post today. Appropriate for its grandiose size and decor, the ceiling fan is a helicopter blade. Here is a pic of the customer lounge that has an indoor pond alongside.

In NE Pennsylvania, there's a "Simpler Times Museum" on scenic Route 6 near Titioute that is worth seeing.

BTW, I enjoyed our brief conversation while the wife was checking out the pond.

Godspeed, ...have a safe and enjoyable trip. :080402gudl_prv:

Evan & Anne I was sitting beside you at breakfast at MD, in that one picture, listening to you talk about this trip. I hope you get to do PEI & the Confederation bridge, love to see shots of that......it is on my bucket list to ride it one day.

Be safe & have FUN!
