cabreco Posted June 5, 2013 #1 Posted June 5, 2013 So, I am planning my trip to Dragons Tail on July 4th so I was figuring on how to pack for the trip using just the Gen 1 trunk & Bag. (Leaving the trailer home) I found these Mechanics tool bags at Harbor Freight for $9.99 that work pretty good. http://www.harborfreight.com/25-pocket-mechanics-tool-bag-94432.html http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_14902.jpg They fit in the Gen1's side bags pretty well & not only will it keep your stuff clean (because face it the inside of these side bags are usually NOT pristine), it makes it easy to bring in w/o having to detach the bags. Better yet for MKII which don't detach. Not sure if they would work for Second Gens. And As Forrest Gump would say: "That's all I have to say about that".
icebrrg3rd Posted June 6, 2013 #2 Posted June 6, 2013 That looks like a great idea, I'll have to swing by my HF and check them out. -Andrew
djh3 Posted June 7, 2013 #3 Posted June 7, 2013 Space bag. You put clothes in, slide the seal and then roll. It forces air out so you can pack alot more in same space. Keeps clean dry and servicable. Got my first set @ bed bath and beyond. Last package was knock offs from big lots. I got 2 med weight jackets and a hoodie in one side bag last Oct on a trip.

Yeah Space bags are awesome. I actually use them to compress stuff like my rainsuit. Ugh!, with spacebags inside these my wife fit more stuff. I hope she doesn't read this! For me these bags are more "carry in luggage" when checking int hotels & such.
djh3 Posted June 7, 2013 #6 Posted June 7, 2013 Thats the main downside to my RSV. On my 900 Vulcan we used a tour pak bag on the luggage rack. Also my leather type bads were on a e-z brackets fixture so a turn of a key and it all comes in the room with you. On the Venture you have to load and unpack. Other thing you could do if using the space bags is get a nylon laundry bag and use it to tote your stuff in and out.
Condor Posted June 7, 2013 #7 Posted June 7, 2013 On my '83VR I just carried a duffle in the passenger seat. Tools and 'stuff' were delegated to the saddles. Pack all the soft stuff... T's, Skivies, socks etc.... to one side of the duffle and it makes a great back rest to lay against while slabbin'.... Now if you're riding 2 up....go buy a trailer...

I already have a duffle in the passenger seat...& she's been there for 26 years (boy am I ever so dead if she reads that!) BTW Condor, I also went the trailer route too!

BTW Condor, I also went the trailer route too! I never had to go to the trailer since my wife always told me to get out of the house and leave her alone... However, I did go to one on the '99 before going to Cody in 2011. Needed the extra space to pack all the raffle prizes. http://www.cast-aways.com/CODYPICS/P1000518%20(Large)_small.JPG http://www.cast-aways.com/CODYPICS/P1000425%20(Large)_small.JPG
alwrmcusn Posted June 7, 2013 #10 Posted June 7, 2013 Hannah and I use those cheap reusable "fabric" type shopping bags. Very inexpensive, soft and can be pushed into corners, around odd shapes etc.
