Speedometer Flashing

Hi All,

 

I have a 2006 RSTD which I love. The other day, while riding, the speedo display would go briefly blank, then light up all segments at once. This would repeat intermittently as I rode. I went home and parked the bike. Looking at it later, when I turned on the ignition, nothing would happen, as in the dash stayed blank - no power. I tried again and jiggled the key. Everything lit up and she started fine. As it idled thought, the speedo display kept flashing as above.

I took off the seat and tank, took apart all the connections I could find, cleaned them and put them back together. At idle, this seemed to have solved the problem. Ignition worked every time...no flashing.

I then went out for a ride and everything was fine for 5-10 minutes and then the problem returned.

 

Anyone experience anything similar? Any suggestions?

 

I should mention I had the same problem 2 years ago, but it included a loss of throttle power and backfiring. Took it to the shop and they couldn't replicate the problem. Had them do a general service and everything was fine ....until now.

Ignition Switch going out??

That's what I'm leaning towards. Interestingly, my ipod hooked up to the kuryakyn speakers stays on when the speedo flashes. The speakers are wired directly to the battery so the ignition would not affect it.

The only other thought I have is a loose connection to the dash...is this hard to get at?
